What would it take to get Americans or Canadians this riled up?

Here is the link to a slideshow of photos taken after the Iranian elections. The pictures are mesmerizing. It's interesting to see the number of women who are in the streets - some with headscarves, many without. I wonder what it would take to get Americans or Canadians this pumped up about something. I can speak for Canadians...Piper might remember when the then government proposing cutting seniors pensions..and about 30,000 gray haired people showed up on Parliament Hill to protest! Now thats a lot of gray power...

The government backed down!!

Amazing, isn't it....how hard these people will fight to get just a resemblance of what we have......and how hard too many idiots in our country will fight to give it away......

Another 4 years of GOP control may have very well brought out the masses in protest.

And another 4 years of Obama will bring about a civil war!! Just look at the "food police" section of "Uncle Teddy's" National Un-healthy bill that has now grown to over 800 pages. It allows for groups like ACORN to go into you home, measure you, check on your excerise program, how many veggies are in your fridge etc. That starts on page 362. Freedom?

I did NOT make that one up, you can look up the bill, that section starts on page 362. Sorry, I can't even make up stuff this stupid. It is being highly pushed by a group in LA, I THINK but not sure, their name is some like the Food Justice Group. It is really goofy.

How about ever worked in the medical field? Like a doctors office or even a hospital?

Had Teamsters Blue Cross for a few years, I also had a blood clot in my Lung when we had HAP, care was ok after they found it. They did screw up pretty bad at first though, sent me home, happened to use my test results in a class a month later then saw the clot, luckily I spent 5 days in hospital on blood thinners (heprine I think). Then they sent me home had me on blood thinners for a few yrs then my Doc said I should quit taking them.

My point is simple;

the more government involvement with our health system, the more restrictions that will be places on the services rendered and the quality of care will suffer. UIt will not be me and my family who will suffer because we already know what is going on without health insurance for a number of years but it will be more likely your family that will have to get used to poor service and care.

In your situation if you had to deal with getting stable and then having to deal with road blocks for proper care, then you would get the fact that the HMO model is the exact model that is being used to 'fix' our health system and understand the flaws. But seeing you had an easy time and I am glad for you, you should be careful of wishing for success of this mess to only help a handful of people.

Remember Doug, medicare and medicaid is a big mess and it has been for a while. If they can not fix those two programs, what makes you think they will be successful with something entriely new?

It is a challenge for sure but a noble cause. I think our medicare programs although not perfect works pretty well.

Health Care for All. Just like Police and Fire protection. People should not have to choose between that checkup and school supplies for the kids.

It is a disgrace when a person working 2 crappy part time jobs with no insurance, cannot afford a Dr. visit. An inmate gets care, so should the working poor and the unemployed.

I pay for my own now and have so for most of my adult life. I also provided my own fire protection for 10 years. I prefere it that way. The more control I have the better. The government is NOT qualified to take care of me. That is MY business. Maybe they should stop with the tatoos, piercings, beer, cigarettes, drugs, theme parks, 3 cars, mini-castles and season tickets, cable tv, XM radio etc etc etc.

Your health is YOUR responsibility!! Not mine or anyone elses. Don't think for one minute that a National system will be affordable or even work. Our government as NO track record for affoardable functioning programs.
