Where Home Prices Crashed Early, Signs of a Rebound

Sacramento was among the first in the nation to fall victim to the real estate collapse. Now it seems to be in the earliest stages of a recovery, a hopeful sign for an economy mired in trouble and anxiety.

Investors and first-time buyers, the traditional harbingers of a housing rebound, are out in force here, competing for bargain-price foreclosures. With sales up 45 percent from last year, the vast backlog of inventory has diminished. Even prices, which have plummeted to levels not seen since the beginning of the decade, show evidence of stabilizing.

Indications of progress are visible in other hard-hit areas, including Las Vegas, parts of Florida and the Inland Empire in southeastern California. Sales in Las Vegas in March, for example, rose 35 percent from last year.

Any number of economists and economic historians can tell you the money Obama is pumping into the economy will temporarily lift it. Unfortunately, the resulting crash will make the housing bubble look like a pop gun compared to the eventual atom bomb.

No... actually, my worst nightmare was running from Godzilla in my hometown. Then there was the one when I was struck by lightning, and felt myself dying. Then there was the one, when I was a baby, where I fell from a building, and woke up just before I hit the ground. :D

My worst enemy, when it comes to our country, is that everyone will lay down and accept a tyranny. However, I know that won't be the case. I know there are plenty of fine men and women who trully believe in a Constitutional form of government, who will fight to restore our country to what it once was. If/when it happens, I plan on being right there with them, spilling blood if necessary.

I do believe America will recover and some sectors are coming up and or bottomed out....the constitutional issues will not stop corporate America....

I'm not worried about constitutional issues stopping corporate America; I'm worried about government overstepping the bounds set by the Constitution. Eventually, government will take over whichever company it sees fit, without redress. No wonder Obama is chummy with Chavez!

I think Doug and Dennis are at opposite ends of the quantum time zones on their political stances....both border enept.

that said.....

Hawk I don't like the GM fiasco at all..and that I agree with you....It seems the taxpayers butts are covered to some degree with the paybacks....

What I'd like to see however is the quarterly payback totals on each recipient of our money....and be sure that money is not pork barreled back out again...it should be burned to prop up the dollars value.

Yea things are getting better......buried deep in tbe BK papers file in the courts last week was the fact the Chysler WILL NOT repay the 7 billion dollars in TAXPAYER MONEY that was given to them as a bailout stalling the BK that should have been left to happen from the start...so yea we are all on the hook for 7 billion on give aways to Chysler....opps i mena the UAW, since ths was all about bailing out the Union and nothing else...

Wait till the curve catches up with all of this money barry has "printed" to spend our way out of this, when it does and we hit inflation, then stagflation, you tell me how we are recovering.. when it takes $3.00 to buy what $2.00 did, you show me how we buttomed out and moved forward............i give 15-18 months...........Oh and loke Chsyler. GM WILL NOT be paying back any of the bailout money...but the UAW will still get more then the bondholders and they will get barrys thanks for a job well done....as GM sits in BK court....
