Change is a part of life and if we do not change with the times we soon will be no more. We are always looking for ways to improve our business and our lives. It is hard for me to imagine having in my life without a goal.

I wrote an essay on why I would like to be chosen to be one of the participants in the Women in Trucking and Bob Perry, The Trucker Trainer Health Challenge. I was lucky enough to be one of the ten finalists. I have been working on losing weight for the past year but...

Spring is near! We are in the panhandle of Florida and woke up this morning to the sound of rain accompanied by thunder and lightening. What a way to wake up. I am from southern Arizona and I still get a thrill out of the sound of rain.

It amazes me how much our truck wash bill goes up in the winter. A typical truck wash at the Blue Beacon costs between $45.00 to $60.00 depending on what we have done. We often have the truck washed more then once a week.

We are offered load opportunities and we must decide whether to accept or decline. Much of our decision relies on where we are in the queue and what the load pays. We are paid on a percentage bases so each load is carefully considered before we accept or reject the offer.

We delivered in Illinois then accepted a load from upper Michigan going to southern Indiana. I had checked the weather for upper Michigan and it looked like we might get a little snow but no big deal. Then we thought when we get to our delivery we will be out of this mess.

When you have the chance and the time to see something new take it and we finally did! We have driven by the signs for Bronner's CHRISTmas store for the past ten years and we finally stopped. What a great place to visit and I hope we to stop again when the weather is not as cold.

We have two big holidays that mean a lot to us, Christmas and Thanksgiving as they both involve family. We plan to be home well in advance of these two holidays so we can afford to be off duty and not worry that we are not out running loads.

We try to get our taxes sent to our accountant as soon as possible in February so he can have them done and have them sent into the government before April 15th. Each year there is a little tension on making sure we get home and all of our 1099s are at the house.
  • Packing the right clothes

We have found that we need to keep at least one set of good clothes in the truck. We stay out long enough that we never know what we might get ourselves into. If we meet up with someone and want to go out for a nice dinner we something different than jeans and a t-shirt.
