Where is our Lech Walesa?

The American middle class/working class is in dire need of real leadership on economic and political grievances. One man in Poland, Lech Walesa, an electrician and leader of the Solidarity movement, stood down the Polish oligarchy and the entire Soviet system unraveled. He was a phenomenal profile in courage. Here in America we are too timid to confront exploitation of the working class. The trucking industry really needs a new champion to rally around... someone in the mode of Jimmy Hoffa(w/o the corruption). The pendulum has swung too far in the favor of corporate interests with big money for lobbyists. I propose a new trade association for truckers, including expediters, would be of great value in improving the lot of us all. There is power in numbers. There is power in speaking with one voice to address grievances. It plays right into the hands of trucking companies to keep us apart, un-informed, confused and powerless. How I wish someone would pickup this idea and run with it.

Sorry, we don't need any more communist and no more unions. He was a front for the Pope and his group to free Poland and admitted to it. I don't deny that this was effective in bringing the change in government but the solidarity movement of the 80's is dead and will never be resuscitated. The premiere unions here don't act like the unions in Europe or Japan and the one's here are only looking out for themselves, their flag waving solidarity days were just a front, just like when they supported the change in government in South Africa and supported that communist terrorist Mandela.

What we need is to be able to control our own businesses and to be able to use our labor in ways we see fit. A union has always stifled true progress and freedoms and any move toward this will only worsen our situation.

One solution that would solve a lot of problems for all of us is real and true tax reform, moving from our punitive graduated antiquated anti-American tax system that taxes our labor to a system like the Fair Tax is the only way to go.

What this will do is to open up our labor markets and to allow the movement of wealth off shore back home. The true incentive to a better foundation for the nation with our industrial base is to go back the pre-income tax days (prior to 1900).

Greg... I am thinking of an association along the lines of OOIDA. But it would be an OOIDA on steroids, with fangs, that would serve to counterbalance excesses in our industry today. OOIDA is perfectly poised to be just that organization. But they play small ball. No offense to OOIDA members. they do more than anyone else to help. Yet, it isn't enough. Until our standards of living improve inside this industry, people suffer. Families suffer. Unless trucking operators and drivers start getting a better deal, this industry is in peril. We are all one mistake away from ruin.

Joe,

What's your OOIDA member number? Why not put it in a signature line? To be blunt, we don't need another group, we need everyone to join OOIDA. They play ball as hard as they're able with the backing they have. If there were a half million members they'd be swinging a much bigger bat and knocking a lot more out of the park.
