First I would like to say I just found this forum and it is amazing and a big help. I am looking at getting a used truck to haul equipment with. Right now I would only be hauling skidsteers and mini excavators things like that. For what I can get a used expeditor truck for it seems like the best bet due to my wallot at this time. Down the road I would be looking at taking the box off and shortening the frame and putting a fifth wheel on the truck and pulling an equipment trailer. I wanted to know what you guys thought I might be able to pull good as far as weight. I would be doing short hauls most of the time and would only do long hauls to pick up new equipment (only about 20 times a year at this point). I was hoping to pull a 15 to 20 ton lowboy again only short trips or a few long trips witch would be empty half way. I was looking at 40,000 lbs loaded 45,000 max. Is this even possable with a converted class 7 truck. I am looking at getting a fl70 and most seem to have cats. I won't be putting many miles on a year so the cat engine life does not worry me. Most have 6 speeds I see and I think a 9 or 10 speed would have to go in along with the 300hp 3126 max hp for on road trucks. Tell me what you think, I'm sure many of you have the answers to my questions. Again I'm not putting on many miles a year and I am not looking to have the fastest truck on the road. I'm young but I drive slow and steady and it works for me. Also I'm looking at getting a 96 fl70 with a 3126 with 230hp, 22' box with 72" sleeper with 244,000 on the od( I'm guessing it has gone over lol) truck looks great for its age (maybe it really has low miles). Has been off the road since 08 but has been started and batterys kept up. Price is 3000 and I think that's a steal compaired to buying a pickup and trailer to haul 10000lbs. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance for any help

A 3126 isn't designed to pull 45k. Way too much weight. I would look at a class 8 for what you are trying to do.
