what to expect?

My girlfriend and I are considering buying an expedite truck and would like to know where we can research what to expect as far as the yearly money potential for 1 truck. I have expedite experience as far as driving goes so I am somewhat familiar as to what it might take to succeed. I wil be running team with a friend, hopefully for fedex cc (white glove) as I am white glove certified. Can you tell me where I can research what those numbers might be, maybe even for different companies.
Thank You,
Mike

Get her in the truck with you! That seems to work the best when the money is coming into one household. Get her class B and get a straight truck and she can train with you at most carriers. 1.20-1.50 per miles times how many miles a year? You wont get rich but should make a good living. If you have to pay another driver, it will cut into your profits, just my .02.

I dont have much experiance in this but me and my husband are getting ready to buy our first truck.I always say plan for the worst and hope for the best! We work for panther and just to make sure I averged us at 1.15 and 1500 miles a week. I know not that much but i wanted to make sure we could make it. We drive for a fleet owner now and know pm at speedco is about 175$. Not sure about the ins I just figured what we paid in our 18 wheeler 500$. And I dont pay my husbnd squat! lol hope that helps

Before you make that move, you better get figures on all your expenses. To get 1500 miles a week, you really don't need to be running team.Biggest expense will be fuel. That will change every day

yeah i averaged us at 6 mpg. I know we would get better than that but better safe that sorry. Also I averaged it at 3.05$ better safe than sorry. I fiure if we can cover all our truck and home expenses on that then everything eles would be proffit to bank to buy anouther truck straight out. Better safe than sorry!

Sparkle,
I'm wondering ... how are you figuring all this out?

Fuel right now is sitting at $3.25 a gallon on my projections. The savings that I incur, is being dumped back into the maintenance of the truck to pad it a bit more.

6 mpg with a straight truck or tractor?

If you are a tractor, use 5 and a straight 9.

greg I know all this, im a straiht truck but I fiured anything over the 1500 miles or 1.15 we would be able to put back in mantinace fund or regular savings.plus dont forget the fsc. for me i wanted to be able to pay basic expences on a worst case senario. When we get into our truck (finally) ill be able to really do the math but for now, I fiure if I can make it on thoes #'s with payin the truck payment we would have pretty good shot. What do you think?

Sparkle,
You are actually in a very good position to learn by actually dealing with the numbers you have through driving. I would treat the truck your in as your own as far as learning and see what you can put together.

I would talk to the owner to see if they will let you know what the cost of everything is. If not, ask people who also own trucks for the same company.

greg, that is very good advice. we pretty much are except the fleet owner we work for is hired on at 1.35 and we will be hired on at 1.25. Now we decided not to take anything less than 1.25 so we can save to buy anouther one. I want to be a fleet owner within the next 5 years. So for us very low truck payment to start out with so we can py it off quickly. We dont have alot of household expenses and if need be can put everthing in store and live in truck. I think well do ok.
