TSA requires the test, training, and back ground training. For Commercial Flights, only cargo can be accepted from certain shippers. Your broker/fowarder has access to that info, which is highly secret. In order to do the pickup from the shipping company there are strict security measures that must be observed. Most shipping companies like Forward Air and UPS have the necessary security procedures and requirements to transport that freight. Cargo only rules are not as strict due to the air carrier, like FEDEx and UPS will do the required security procedures.

With out the correct paper work, especially commercisl airlines will refuse the shipment.

My certification for unescorted cargo access expires next year snd still I have to go through some things to drop at the commercial airlines.

Talk to the company you get your freight from for the updated chsnges to the rules.

hope this helps.

Be prepared to watch some silly videos, and take tests that show WIRES sticking out of a pallet, then can you Identify a suspicous cargo or activity...etc etc, Background Checks, Fingerprints and the company holds the certificate, I took it, passed, was highly amused by the silly presentations and videos and have only one time been asked about it, and that was in a Port, for a DOD load...just another layer of Paperwork to make someone feel safe...I have been in and out of many airports and never been asked, But then again the Dispatch may be handling that paper chase...

the company you would for request a background check you fill out a form and than they give it to tsa
and they check you out , if everything is ok they give you a letter saying your alright and you carry the letter in your note book with all your forms that you carry to do your job with
Question, we resigned from the company that certified us with TSA, can we request a copy of the letter directly from TSA?

I think it is not transferable from one carrier to the next. I believe you have to refile under your current carrier.

Ive delivered to american airlines at the PHX airport and i never had to do anything special. Also plenty of air freight pick ups and deliveries.

Perhaps it was done by my carrier without my involvement but military bases have been the only thing ive needed to do any special qualifications for.

If it flew on a passenger plane & the TSA does a backtrack inspection, the Indirect Air Carrier, IAC, will need to prove that those in the chain of custody are TSA certified...I imagine drivers would be blameless but the IAC could be on the hook for fines.

Each carrier has to do the application to TSA.
It is not transferable across carriers for security reasons.
that is not true now and may not have been before. my STA number/qualification is mine. I drive and tender at airports for multiple carriers. they all accept my number. i use their IAC form signed by me when i drop off. its just another form with the airbills, manifest, ect...
