Dave P. The EIN#. Heard on Frank Katz Tax area that sole proprietor can use SS# as EIN#. I'm not even sure I understand what that is!? This is probably a dumb question, but hey, I gotta ask. And also, do I get my biz licence here in my town first. Also, what's this about pre-qualifying with a Co., good/bad? Thanks folks!

EIN Number neans the Federal Employee Identifcation Number. I believe a individual can use their SS number. If you are a LLC Corp or a S Corp you will need to apply for a FEIN.

Dave P. I guess nobody knows much about that pre-qualify stuff or biz licsence stuff. Well, I probably should try the others areas for more info on what exactly a employee ident. # is and how you get one. Thanks anyway. I know you guys really try hard. RichM is correct. As a sole proprietor filing under your own name you can use your SSN or EIN. I use my SSN for my tax filings.

If filing as a coproration (Regular, S, LLC etc.) you would need an EIN as the corporation would be treated as it's own entity.

Dave P. I've heard it's "much" simpler filing under Sole P. Maybe I'll just go down to the Chamber of Commerce and ask them what the heck to do!"chuckle) I'd like to get as much set-up as possible before I get to the '05 Expo in Ky. Maybe it's better to call Panther, Tri-State 'an a couple others first. Humm..

To apply for an EIN, go to http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html

Use their phone# as it will go faster. They give you an EIN, not your SSN. I know in my county, you can go to the county clerk's office and register your business. They use your SSN as your tax ID number.
