U.S. residents fight for the right to hang laundry

I do not understand the mentality of people who sign their rights away with Home Owner's associations.

"Oh you can't paint your home with that color"

"but it's the same color that's on the house now"

"No it isn't, that color is lighter"

"That color is faded, that's why we need to paint the house"

"no it is not the same color, you will have to present your request to the board at the next meeting with color samples and we will compare it to the approved colors"

I hope they beat the HOA into the ground for this.

We bought into a condo home in Canada...and we hated it...we tried the clothesline thingee as well....we couldn't hang it from the fence and had to be concealed from view by the fence.

Here HOAs have the final say, it is like people want to be told what they can do with their property.

We were offered a great big nice old house, 5000 sq ft house in a great location for cheap. It was a foreclosure sale and we were going to take it but then the Realtor hit us with the HOA stuff and I walked out of the deal, literally out of the office without saying a word. Both my wife and I refuse to be involved with something that takes from us our right to do what we want with the property.

When we bought it the HOA wasn't even formed yet and we added a storm door and trellis for JuJu roses....and they wanted us to remove trellis even though it wasn't a permanent structure and the door was 1 shaded lighter then the later rule...that one we won....THEN came the NEW rule! If you wanted to appeal any decision there was $750 charge to do so...to cover the costs of the lawyer!!

NEVER again...

Stupid rules like this is why when we are ready to buy a house we will not even look at places that have HOA's. I really don't wan't someone to tell me what I can and can't have on the property that I am paying for. Now if they want to take over the mortgage payments, then go right ahead and tell me how I can paint the house and how tall my grass can be. I mean certain rules in a neighborhood are good, that way it doesn't look crappy, but not hanging clothes, or have a boat in the drive, or a shed in the backyard is ridiculous. The other thing that bothers me about the new House farms that they are building these days, besides the crappy construction is the rules of not being able to fence in your back yard. Plus on top of that you are forced to pay the HOA fees. If you don't pay them, the HOA can place a lien against you and foreclose on your house. Yes it has happened.

I was cleaning out the garage and needed the driveway parked in the visitors lot overnight and got a $40 parking ticket!!!

I also parked in the visitor lot to let my mom park close in the driveway she has a disability and plated as such....the board told me to move my car and my mom should park in the disabled spaces and walk all the way to the house...I refused...another 40 dollar ticket!!
