Back in November it was announced that the German automotive supplier iwis (pronounced ee-vis) will take over the old Webasto plant in Murray, Kentucky (on US 641 just north of town), with production to begin in late 2013 and full production after the first of the year in 2014. They manufacture timing chains.

In addition, Kemmerich USA announced a new facility to be built across the street from the old Webasto plant, in the new Industrial park. The facility will also serve as Kemmerich's US headquarters. They will supply stamped and welded OEM parts to Ford and GM in the Midwest, as well as Volkswagon, Mercedes and BMW in the south. Construction on the Kemmerich facility will begin this Spring.

iwis will employ about 75 people, Kemmerich will initially employ about 120 people, with up to 240 when production is ramped up. Kemmerich and iwis are but 2 of the 61 German-owned companies and nearly 180 European companies in Kentucky. More than 26,000 Kentuckians have jobs working for European-owned companies.
