Tucker Carlson Cancelled - Gone From Fox News

Carlson will not run for president. It's absurd that a couple of pundits would even float that idea. He's wildly popular as a TV personality and obviously enjoys doing that. Also, why would he want to take the pay cut?

No, Carlson won’t run. Trump is up by almost 50 points. He’s got the nomination.
Note to the Left: Tucker and DeSantis won’t be your Knights In Shining Armor to take out Trump. No need for debates either. It’s over.
No need for a knight in shining armor. Trump will take out himself.

Nope. The Left is counting on their “insurance policy investigations”.
Well the raid on mar largo is going to flop unless they go after Biden alot harder because he did much worse with taking classified documents that he was never ever supposed to have and then kept them in unsecured locations.

Maybe FoxNews management is having second thoughts about cancelling Tucker. It appears they're not bulletproof after all.

"In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, the much-watched former prime-time anchor’s favorable ratings are higher than the cable network that fired him...
Rasmussen found that Republicans, by a margin of 47%-13%, said the move would make Fox worse. Among independents, the margin was 32%-15%."

They’re just not leaving Tucker’s show, but abandoning Fox completely.
They are saying to Fox you’re on your own son.

They may be having second thoughts but I think it would be highly unlikely that they'd ask Carlson to return. We still don't have a good explanation of why FOX fired Carlson in the first place. Whatever the reason was, it had to have been pretty important, and it likely would preclude even the thought of FOX management asking him back.

While the impact is huge in this first week where data is available, this is not new ground for FOX. They have fired big-names before, suffered a dip, and rebuilt over time. While the post-Carlson dip is bigger than any they have suffered before after firing a big name. FOX is not going to fail. They are loaded with cash and backed by a family that has even more. If they displayed a pretty photo of a sunrise for the entire time slot Carlson once filled, FOX NEWS would survive and do just fine financially.

I expect FOX to suffer through this dip, maybe experiment with a name or two, or a format or two; and eventually rebuild to a healthy level. That level may never top what they had with Carlson, but again, this is not a fatal blow to FOX. Not even close.

FOX Stock Prices Since Carlson's Firing

Out of curiosity, I just checked. On the day Carlson's firing was announced (Monday), FOX stock reached an intraday low of $29.27 and recovered a bit to close the day at $29.91. For the day, FOX closed down -2.95% from the previous trading day. The previous trading day was Friday, before even Carlson knew he was fired. For this stock, a 3% move is common.

Monday's low was not a all-time low. Traders would call it a local low or short-term low. The stock price has been lower than this many times, and sometimes stayed there for months at a time.

The stock price went sideways the next two days (consolidation). It then went up Thursday and Friday. It close Friday at $30.54. That's a gain of about +4.3% from the intraweek low. For the week, FOX stock closed down -0.91% from the previous Friday.

Zooming out to look at the bigger picture, investors see FOX stock is in a period of bearish consolidation, which suggests the stock price is likely to decline in the days or weeks ahead. But such a decline would have little to do with Carlson. We know that because Carlson's departure made less than a 1% difference week over week.

For FOX investors who up-vote or down-vote their confidence in FOX with their money, the Carlson departure proved to be a non-event. There was no big selloff. there was no surge up.

They're still the only conservative leaning major news network on TV. So long as they hold that monopoly they'll maintain a core viewership just because these people have no other place to go. If they decide to become more like CNN, then they might have a problem.

However, Newsmax is showing a surge in new viewers, and if they can put together some decent programming content with interesting personalities they could become a serious competitor. Right now they're probably scrambling to find investors that will bankroll an effort to tell Carlson to name his price.

While Tucker Carlson doesn't need his Fox News paycheck to provide for his family, the $6 million salary he takes home from the show is definitely a nice amount of pocket change (via Celebrity Net Worth

I want him to be able to garner the biggest audience possible. The best parts of his show are his extended and informative monologues and when he can debate someone. But there are few that want to do that with him. He is getting offers from OAN and Blaze TV. I assume Newsmax would make an offer as well.

Keeping Tucker Carlson off the air for 6 months isn't going to help fox at all....
If the Breitbart News report is accurate, the contract is not for six more months. The contract's time frame goes through Nov, 2024, which is 19 months at least.
they lost 3.5 million viewers
No, they did not lose 3.5 million viewers. We only have a week of data to analyze. Yes, there was a significant drop in ratings for Carlson's time slot, but it was nowhere near 3.5 million.
and they hurt their own stocks.....
If you review my chart analysis above, you will see that the Carlson departure did not hurt the FOX stock price in any meaningful way. The stock price moved less than 1% in the week Carlson left. There have been many, many weeks when the stock price has moved higher or moved lower than the week of Carlson's departure. For the FOX shareholders, the Carlson departure was a non-event. That could of course change over time, but based on the available data to date, it was a non-event. While some FOX shareholders dumped their stock on the day of the news and the next day, the price recovered as other investors overall shrugged off the news. The incoming investors were quite pleased to pick up the shares the Carlson-panic sellers provided at a low price.

Finally, keeping Carlson off the air for 19 months or more and keeping him off through the 2024 election cycle would be quite beneficial to FOX. That would keep a major competitor at bay. I think FOX would keep Carlson off the air forever if it could.

The number of people who tune in to his show might be worth bragging about, but since Fox was having trouble selling advertising on his show because of the lies he was spreading, he was costing them money. Remember, Fox news is a for profit corporation.
