Too bad it isn't true....

I keep getting a text message saying I won an Ipad2 or $1000. I know I didn't enter for anything, and if I did, I would not have given my cell number for it. My son is getting the messages too. Anyone else? Wonder if the cell carrier would do anything to block them?

Blocking numbers is pretty easy to do, usually you can do it on your own.

Cell carriers could bring the spam to a screeching halt quite easily: charge a fee to send texts in high volumes.
Think they will?
I've been getting spam texts too, and intend to let Verizon know I don't appreciate it - perhaps they are [or will be] participating in a program to forward the spam to authorities that I just read about.
Replying 'stop' as instructed just lets the spammer know the number is active, and they can sell those for premium income.

The wife and I get them all the time to.Good luck getting verizon to do anything about it. I called and asked why I had getting so many calls and they told me I had been giving my number to alot of places.
I said I hadn't and went on to explain a few things about the calls and asked them what to do nicely.I finally got ill and told the CSR that if my number was sold by verizon anymore I was going to change carriers, she said to go ahead and do it.
I'm cutting a long story short but I never did get smart with her until she did me first.I have 3 phones with them and one is hardly ever used except to call my or my wifes phone. Its my mother in laws. GOOD LUCK

Professional spammers have a lot more numbers to use than we can possibly block.....[/

You are probably right. I dont think it is ever the same number. Between that and people that have the wrong number, they are doing my text quota damage.

We have Sprint and have not received any unwanted texts.
Must be a Verizon thing.

I get a few calls and texts with my service from AT&T.The texts I ignore, or opt out.the phone calls, well, you don't want to know what I do...lol...Brutal and harsh, but it works, and I never hear back from the solicitor.

There was on an option online to opt out of the number sharing thing a few months ago. We don't have any problems really.

It was on Verizons website when I logged in to pay my bill. I had also gotten an email about it from them.
