The Trump Card...

TDS is real. Also what was the query you offered grok to generate that response?
If you mean by TDS "Trump Distrust Syndrome" I'll agree. The man is a serial liar. That fact has been documented tens of thousands of times.

My Grok prompt was not saved when I exited the session. It was something like "Trump posted on Truth Social about talks he had with Iran. Is this true? Did such talks take place?" or maybe "Is there confirmation of Trump's claim that he has had productive conversations with Iran?"

The only way you can logically assert that Trump is telling the truth and Iran is lying is to invent some super-secret reason why it is logical for Iran to lie about something like this. If it is true that "good and productive conversations" has happened and both sides actively participated, how does it serve Iran to deny that?

It is very easy to say how it serves Trump to lie about this. He is desperate to bring oil prices down and to calm the declining stock markets. His Truth Social post did that very thing, especially at first, when the algo-traders reacted to the news in premarket trading
It's a sad state of affairs when you dont know who to believe, a pathological liar or the Iranian's.

What's Really Going On? What's Your Spin?

I may be wrong about this but here's my best guess. Trump claims there have been "good and productive conversations" with Iran. Iran continues to deny that. Both of these are true on their face and easily verified. There is no doubt Trump said what he said and Iran said what it said. Whether the statements themselves are true remains to be settled.

Trump recently said in a Truth Social post that, following talks with Iranian authorities, he ordered the U.S. military to postpone strikes on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for five days. That is also true on its face and easily verified. He in fact posted that.

As for the strikes themselves, none have been reported since the post went up. None from US. None from Israel. None from Iran.

Those are the verifiable facts. The story I'm telling myself and others about them is Trump is lying about the talks. They did not happen. The reason he lied is explained below.

When he saw the positive market response to that earlier post, Trump doubled down and announced that because of the talks (which he is lying about and that did not happen), he has ordered no strikes on Iranian power plants and infrastructure for five days. I believe he did indeed order that and US planes and missiles sit quiet today as a result.

I believe Trump is lying about the talks because when he issued his 48-hour ultimatum on Saturday for Iran to open the Straight of Hormuz or else he'd hit the power plants and infrastructure, he painted himself into a corner and needed to lie his way out.

His Saturday night ultimatum came out of the blue (actually out of his chaotic imagination). After he issued it and Iran made it known that they would and could retaliate in kind, the private pushback from regional nations and the US military (who are grounded in reality) was so strong that Trump had no choice but to TACO out (Trump Always Chickens Out).

Being the skilled liar he is, he lied his way out and the situation stands as it now is.

Iran continues to deny the talks happened. The Straight of Hormuz remains closed. US planes and missiles are quiet at present. Iran is launching no attacks. In other words, Iran gets a free time-out and recovery period while keeping the Straight closed and the threats high.

That's my spin. What's yours?
