The Trump Card...

TDS is real. Also what was the query you offered grok to generate that response?
If you mean by TDS "Trump Distrust Syndrome" I'll agree. The man is a serial liar. That fact has been documented tens of thousands of times.

My Grok prompt was not saved when I exited the session. It was something like "Trump posted on Truth Social about talks he had with Iran. Is this true? Did such talks take place?" or maybe "Is there confirmation of Trump's claim that he has had productive conversations with Iran?"

The only way you can logically assert that Trump is telling the truth and Iran is lying is to invent some super-secret reason why it is logical for Iran to lie about something like this. If it is true that "good and productive conversations" has happened and both sides actively participated, how does it serve Iran to deny that?

It is very easy to say how it serves Trump to lie about this. He is desperate to bring oil prices down and to calm the declining stock markets. His Truth Social post did that very thing, especially at first, when the algo-traders reacted to the news in premarket trading
It's a sad state of affairs when you dont know who to believe, a pathological liar or the Iranian's.

What's Really Going On? What's Your Spin?

I may be wrong about this but here's my best guess. Trump claims there have been "good and productive conversations" with Iran. Iran continues to deny that. Both of these are true on their face and easily verified. There is no doubt Trump said what he said and Iran said what it said. Whether the statements themselves are true remains to be settled.

Trump recently said in a Truth Social post that, following talks with Iranian authorities, he ordered the U.S. military to postpone strikes on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for five days. That is also true on its face and easily verified. He in fact posted that.

As for the strikes themselves, none have been reported since the post went up. None from US. None from Israel. None from Iran.

Those are the verifiable facts. The story I'm telling myself and others about them is Trump is lying about the talks. They did not happen. The reason he lied is explained below.

When he saw the positive market response to that earlier post, Trump doubled down and announced that because of the talks (which he is lying about and that did not happen), he has ordered no strikes on Iranian power plants and infrastructure for five days. I believe he did indeed order that and US planes and missiles sit quiet today as a result.

I believe Trump is lying about the talks because when he issued his 48-hour ultimatum on Saturday for Iran to open the Straight of Hormuz or else he'd hit the power plants and infrastructure, he painted himself into a corner and needed to lie his way out.

His Saturday night ultimatum came out of the blue (actually out of his chaotic imagination). After he issued it and Iran made it known that they would and could retaliate in kind, the private pushback from regional nations and the US military (who are grounded in reality) was so strong that Trump had no choice but to TACO out (Trump Always Chickens Out).

Being the skilled liar he is, he lied his way out and the situation stands as it now is.

Iran continues to deny the talks happened. The Straight of Hormuz remains closed. US planes and missiles are quiet at present. Iran is launching no attacks. In other words, Iran gets a free time-out and recovery period while keeping the Straight closed and the threats high.

That's my spin. What's yours?

Here's what I'm convinced of: like all authoritarians, Donald Trump's embrace of war and regime changes is nothing more than his addiction to power and control — an addiction that's only going to get worse.

This is someone who spent years promising not to get the United States involved in any new wars (especially in the Middle East) or in the business of regime changes, yet he's now attacked Venezuela, and is trying to remove the current government in Cuba — all within just the past few weeks.

He got a taste of that kind of power, and it's clear he loves it.

You've seen it with his use of ICE and the National Guard. He craves the power to use these forces at his will, to wield any authority he has — especially if it involves carrying an assault weapon or making things go "boom" — to intimidate, bully, or force others he opposes into doing what he wants.

Which shouldn't surprise anyone, because that's who Trump has been his entire life: a weak, insecure bully who's always abused his power to try to hurt others and get what he wants.

This is why, when MAGA says it's unfair to compare him to Hitler, it both is and isn't. It's not as if these horrible dictators in our history books started out as what they eventually became. They grew into it over time, becoming more dangerous, monstrous, and hungry for power. As I've said before, Trump's not Hitler — but he's a hell of a lot closer to being Hitler than he is to Ronald Reagan.

The only thing keeping Trump in any semblance of a check on his power is the Constitution, which, each and every day, he's trying to gut and erode to make himself the singular decision-maker and wielder of power in this country — just like every other dictator in history has done.

From Vladimir Putin to Xi Jinping, and practically every other autocrat walking this Earth right now, it's the same playbook:

1. Attack the media.

2. Target and silence political opponents.

3. Consolidate power.

4. Use the military as their personal security force to target those they oppose.

5. Manipulate their followers with over-the-top nationalism.

6. Erode trust in democracy to rig elections.

7. Label anyone who opposes you as an enemy of the country.

8. Gaslight the public and call anything negative that's reported as "fake."

Everything Trump does is straight out of How to Be a Dictator 101.

During his first administration, he had adults in the room who worked against these urges — at least initially. But as time went on, and he purged these adults from his administration, towards the end of that first term he was largely supported by the same type of sycophants and clowns we're witnessing in Trump 2.0.

Now, this president doesn't have those people checking his worst urges. Instead, he's surrounded by people using him as their useful idiot, manipulating him into doing what they want, pandering to his insecurities, and watching him grow into an even bigger monster that history will look back on with shame and embarrassment. Nobody will remember him, and they couldn't care less about his legacy. As long as the unhinged buffoon supports policies in the interests of these con artists, that's all they care about.

It's a classic example of The Emperor's New Clothes.

This is why the midterms are so incredibly important. We have to establish a branch of our government that will rein in Trump's power because he's only going to get worse — especially in 2027 and 2028, when he'll be desperate to stay in the headlines during a period at the end of a presidency when the current president typically steps back to let the next candidate become the face of the party — something we know Trump will never be able to cope with.

Donald Trump will spend the last two years of his presidency doing whatever he can to ensure he's the dominant figure in the headlines every day, that he's the one getting all the attention. This makes him very dangerous, because we've all seen he's willing to start a war largely to distract from the Epstein files and his failing economy.

So, get used to this. I hate to point out the obvious, but it will get worse before it gets better. Once these types of tyrants get a taste of this power, it only escalates. They only become more unhinged. It only gets uglier.

The good news is November isn't that far away, and we have the chance to effectively end Trump's unchecked power for half of his presidency. To do as our Founding Fathers intended: have our legislative, co-equal branch of government serve as a system of checks and balances on the executive.

We're in a race to see which happens first. Trump erodes the Constitution enough to gain unchecked power, or he is dethroned through death, disability, or impeachment. Once he's gone, and his criminal cohorts no longer have the possibility of a Trump pardon, the American people can be about reclaiming their democracy and strengthening it by acting on the lessons learned.

I don't know who will win this race. I do know that grass-roots citizen activism helps. ICE ended its repugnant, storm-trooper Minneapolis surge because of citizen activism. This weekend, millions of Americans will turn out for another No Kings protest. Millions!

Another Trump Ultimatum Ignored

On Nov. 30, 2024, Trump said, "We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy."

On Feb. 1, 2026, China president Xi Jingping issued China's Strong Currency Directive in which he explicitly called for the yuan to become a "strong currency" that is "widely used in international trade, investment, and foreign exchange markets" and eventually "attain global reserve currency status.

This is a direct threat to the global reserve currency status of the US dollar. Trump's 100% tariff threat passed as if it meant nothing ... because it did mean nothing. No such tariff has been imposed, even as the Strong Currency Directive was as clear and public as any national policy can be.

Trump's Good and Productive Conversations with Iran

If the talks Trump claims have happened or are happening, and if they are in fact "good and productive" Trump must be using his superior deal making skills to request that the Straight of Hormuz remain effectively closed and that the Iranian missile strikes on Israel and certain Gulf states resume. Trump must have also won Iranian permission for Israel to attack Iran again as both nations have resumed those operations. And Trump must have agreed to not strike Iranian power plants because none have been hit in recent hours.

This in no way diminishes Trump's purported Art of the Deal skills. His supporters know Trump is secretly brilliant and he is really playing four- dimensional chess. All of these deaths and high gas prices and loss of US respect in global eyes is intentional. Trump has a secret plan that is playing out as you read this. Trump's brilliance will become fully known when Trump's objectives are achieved for all the world to see.

That's one way to spin current circumstances. The other way is to accept that Iran is telling the truth when they firmly, consistently, and continue to deny that such conversations happened. They did not happen. Trump is lying.
