The thing with NFTs is each one sold can be publicly tracked forever. You have to set up a digital wallet to receive the NFTs you buy. While buyers are not identified by name, their wallet addresses are public. So we'll soon know how many were sold and how popular or unpopular this endeavor is. The Polygon blockchain on which these NFTs are sold reveals every wallet transaction forever.

Trump Puts Himself Up For Sale

Literally; by offering his NFT collection, Trump is putting himself up for sale. That's not unprecedented. Professional athletes, performers and others put themselves up for sale all the time. But when a presidential candidate puts himself up for sale, that seems a bit odd, does it not?

Some may argue that in these days of corrupt government, that's what all politicians do, they just do it less openly. That may be a valid point.
Maybe we should just start an online auction system where politicians can bid for our votes and we can sell them to either the highest bidder or give it to the candidate we want to win.

There are about 7 million active voters in Georgia. Over $126 million was spent in the Senate race there. That works out to $18 per voter.

Would you sell your vote for $18 or higher if it was legal for you to do so and legal for politicians to pay?

I have not done and will not take the time to do an analysis of the negative response to these tokens by Trump world. I saw clips last night of Bannon and Flynn cringing at the sight of pitchman Trump hawking these wares. I have read that response on Truth Social has been luke-warm at best. I saw numerous Trump supporters on twitter saying they were embarrassed by this endeavor, or that it was too much to bear and that prompted them to look for a replacement presidential candidate.

The tokens sold out quickly. All 45,000 of these limited edition items were scooped up in less than 24 hours. That's $4,455,000 gross revenue, minus artist royalties and other expenses associated with an NFT offering. Nice work if you can get it.

Now the sleuthing begins. Every token sold was deposited in the buyer's digital wallet. In the crypto world, there are people who love, love, love to track and reveal the transactions that are of public interest. All the info they need to do this is publicly available on the Polygon blockchain, on which these tokens were peddled.

Did Trump himself, one of his business entities, or a handful of close supporters scoop up these tokens to artificially pump this NFT sale? That's been done before. In fact, as the crypto world collapses today under a cloud of scandal and fraud, that bad-faith practice is one of the major reasons.

Look for Trump to loudly proclaim the success of this first offering and to follow up with the next round designed to lure in even more suckers before liquidity disappears and the market price of these tokens collapses.

Also look for the reputational damage to continue. You don't get to be an adult melting down under legal pressure and retreating into inner super hero fantasies, making a huge show of it, and then somehow undo the reputational damage by pretending to be presidential. You don't get to carry on like a wide-eyed third-grader with a new toy and then be taken seriously by talking like an adult.

As I said, look for people to have Trump NFT fun for free by producing images that lampoon Trump's digital trading cards. A few more came out last night. People may tire of this after a while, but they're having a great time at Trump's expense now.

If Trump objects, the reply is these people are simply exercising their free speech rights. And Trump just issued a statement supporting free speech, did he not? At least I think he did. It was hard to hear in the midst of all the noise he created and attention he got by (also exercising his free speech rights) carrying on like a third-grader with his new trading card collection.
