I read the following -

“Excessive CEO pay shows moral decline: lawmaker

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Deep South Republican lawmaker with financial market clout said excessive corporate executive pay reflects U.S. ethical and moral decline and warned that most Americans will not put up with it for very long.

In language seldom heard from his party on Capitol Hill, Alabama's Rep. Spencer Bachus (news, bio, voting record) said Americans are disturbed by chief executives "whose pay is not justified by their performance."

"If nothing else, it shows we've had some decline in ethics or our moral behavior. How we address that I'm not sure. It's a situation most Americans will not tolerate for long," he told reporters on Monday after speaking to a group of bankers.

The House Financial Services Committee, on which the Alabama lawmaker is the senior Republican, is set to hold a hearing on Thursday on corporate executive pay.

Committee Chairman Barney Frank (news, bio, voting record) has introduced legislation that would give shareholders a nonbinding vote on pay issues -- a practice common in Britain, but controversial here.â€

And I thought first the indication of moral decline in this country is the amount of money wasted on the political cr*p like this. We would be farther along if the committee looks into the practices of the banks that support the invasion of our country.

You mean it has nothing to do with parents not parenting?
Or our schools failing to teach?
Or the crap ppl listen to?
Or that no one cares about anyone but themselves?
Or that no one does their homework before they vote, thus leading to the idiots we get in office?
Or that they're hypnotized by the boob tube?
Or brainwashed by the media?
Or that they don't want to work?
Or that one job isn't enough to raise a family?

I know I missed something...

I think it is a direct result of so called "trickle down economics"
brought to us by guess who? not that I am pointing fingers. As I have said before I DON'T TRUST EITHER SIDE.What I am getting at here is that these big pay packages that CEO's are getting today are a result of the tax cuts big business has gotten on the republicans watch. The theory of these tax cuts is a noble one: cut taxes to big business and in turn they will be able to hire more employees, make capital improvements to increase production, which in turn creates more jobs, etc. The idea is sound, The problem is that human greed comes into play . A bunch of smug executives who have control of all that excess cash decide to give it to each other rather than use it for it's intended purpose and thus you have the situation we have today with incompetent people in charge making rediculous money and no one held accountable.
