the changing climate and interstate travel

Layoutshooter, I completely agree with you. I believe every body involved are to blame for the accidents that occurred. But ultimately it was the driver's fault the most, because he is the one who had control of stopping or going forward.

The trucks that stopped directly in the right lane of the highway, at first I thought was ridulous to stop on the highway. But they were being responsible by stopping where they could, since everything was full over compacity for parking.

We pulled over but I was concerned about dispatch getting upset with us for not moving. Finally I decided my nerves couldn't handle it and I had to stop. We are new to our carrier and pretty new to driving truck. We are one of the ones who need every penny. Although with being with our new carrier for less than a month, we will be completely caught up and be able to start saving again in about two weeks. Yes it has been that good for us in less than a month.
Our old carrier still owes us for three loads but is denying they owe us. We haven't fought it yet just because we honestly haven't stopped long enough to dig up all our paper work and prove our case. We have been very fortunate and are glad to be with the new carrier. But those things do play a role in whether someone stops. Although it is better to stop and be late than to keep going and never arrive.

Even harder when they lose their truck or get killed. There is little leeway when safety is concerned. Yeah, it can be tough. I know, I have been there more than once in my life and most likely will be there again. I have never used that as an excuse and will not in the future. They should also keep in mind that when they do wreck, and they are likely too if they keep that attitude, that there is a good chance that they will take out some others with them. What about the family of that guy they killed while "getting 'er done". Are they going to support them?
Well, the idea is that the states plow and treat the roads so that they aren't unsafe, and the drivers can then get 'er done.

Part of any discussion like this should be the facts about the weather itself. It is a fact that the snow storms of the last two winters have been "truly extraordinary," as meteorologist Dr. Jeff Masters documents in his blog.

As I said above, seasonal weather is difficult to predict. The next two winters could end up being extraordinary for their lack of snow. There is simply no way to know.

You are correct. There is only one thing about weather, and life for that matter, that never changes. That is the fact that it always is changing.

They certainly could, but as I pointed out, it takes only 2 to start a trend. If a couple more winters like this go by, I think we have to declare it "the new normal." We're actually still in the tail end of the current ice age, an ice age defined as one in which there is ice at the poles and glacial activity on the continents. When Alaska goes back to being warm all year around with tropical plants, we won't need snow equipment anymore.

If the money is spent on plows and such and the climate takes another 180, it's not like those trucks can't be used for something else. They'll get used.

I guess companies could put one of those onboard cam recorders running realtime data that is streamed back to the office and the company could see what the truck is doing in all kinds of weather and interesting pics in the evening o my.lol:D
