I have a FL106 2001 w/series 50 Detroit. I have had it about 6 months. It had sat for awhile before i got it and would only run off the right side tank.Ran some fuel addive and took care of problem.Took two weeks of in july now back to running on right tank.It seems to be worst this time if I have to idle all night by morin it start pushing fuel out the vent tube on the left. The lines look in good shape and no kinks. Any help or advise would be most appreciated.

I had the same problem with an FL 70,I lived with it for about 2 years, sometimes the left tank would draw and sometimes not.I finally bit the bullet, had both tanks drained, removed and steam cleaned. They found quite a bit of trash in the left tank.I looked into buying locking caps for the tanks but couldn't find them anywhere.

I also had the same nagging problem! It took cleaning tanks and replacing fuel lines which where also full of crap, including metal shavings! Go figure...freightliner dealer had previous experience with this and it was no surprise. Still cost was on me as foreign material was my responsibility. Good luck with annoying problem. If you would tell us what cures your problem so we can pass it on to others? Thanks..

I would use a fuel additive regularly once you have them drained. On occassion it doesn't hurt to run a quart of transmission fluid through to aid in cleaning. If fuel is going to sit in the tanks for awhile I pour some alcohol in the tanks. That will stop mold and microbes from growing. On the downside, it won't do a thing for metal shavings in the tanks. That does seem to be a common thread I keep seeing relavant to Freightliners.
On a side note; if adding a generator, make sure they know what they are doing when installing the fuel lines. I could see this as a place for this kind of problem as well, if they are tapping the tank for fuel versus tying into an existing fuel line.

SOUNDS TO ME THAT YOU HAVE A CLOGGED RETURN LINE. THE SYSTEM DUAL PICK-UP & DUAL RETURN. IT RETURNS FUEL EQUALLY TO EACH TANK. IF ONE SIDE IS CLOGGED OR THE LINE IS PINCHED. IT WILL ONLY RETURN TO THE ONE TANK. WHICH WILL OVERFLOW THE TANK CAUSING FUEL TO COME OUT THE VENT HOSE.

Thanks for all the help. Replaced all the fuel lines over labor day weekend, still didnt see any thing wrong with them but, things are working just fine. Maybe a pice of junk in one of the lines i did not see came out. But it is sure nice running on both tanks. Thanks again
