Stretching generator pm interval

Seems as if most here will tell you to insulate, my guess is that even the best AC out there won't cool an uninsulated vehicle. I only have VERY limited experience with the New Onan, but it is quiet and powerful. I think the common thinking is that the Honda is the way to go for quiet and dependable. Get ready for the great debate ! Turtle was a great help to me recently regarding mobile power generation questions. That guy should charge money for his answers.

I was shocked when I learned that our unit is 8 to 10k $ off the shelf. One of the reasons I've taken a keen interest in maintaining it properly.

I wonder if the dealer put another small break in service filter on it. ( i.e. the same one he took off.)
If so, I'd ask the dealer to eat 2/3 of the bill and get her done at 50 again.
Maybe not needed, but it'd make the point.

Wolverine, it costs money to make money.
You're in the big leagues now.

I made a specific point of asking that very thing, if they knew that the regular filter was different than the break in filter. He assured me that they knew. The long service time was due to them having to drive somewhere to get the correct filter.

I knew about the different filter from info given here on EO.

You'll get no argument from me on that philosophy, zorry. I've followed it since my first true venture into the free-enterprise universe, in 1980, aside from a couple commission-only sales jobs that required nurturing a territories.

I quickly learned labor-saving machinery was vital to efficiency in a construction business; and helped to retain key employees. I plowed margins back into the business, often to the dismay of babies who may not have always bought the latest designer clothes, or whose mother may not have been able to buy a new car every year; BUT the business was a success.

It's no different here. Putting junk on the road will only result in junk returns. My
first truck purchased (which I know you are familiar with) was nothing more than adopting the problems of an inherently poor design. Never again.

The same mindset should apply to maintenance. As the man said many years ago: "Pay me now, or pay me later."

Here's hoping our paths cross one of these days. I plan on being back out on the road again, soon after the '06 gets some major work completed. Now it's grandchildren that will want the designer clothes!

I believe our paths may cross soon.
Looking forward to meeting anyone out here that's older than me.

I got a personal tour if the Chance-cadia this week.
Nice.

Onan generators have gone through some design iterations since we bought ours. Older or newer, I'd stick with the recommended service intervals. As you pointed out, these Onans are expensive. Oil and filter changes are cheap. The oil capacity is small so change it often. That little bit of oil does a lot of good work. Treat it well do it will treat you well.

I do the oil changes myself. Waste oil goes into an empty windshield washer bottle. I generally do these oil changes at truck stops so it is an easy walk to the shops to get rid of the waste oil. I use masking tape and a marker to label the bottle "Waste Oil." If no one is in the bay to help, I just set the bottle on the drain rack and leave.

The Fumoto drain valve plug is new to me. I'll have to check that out.

OK. I just checked it out online. Sold!

I received the Wolverine Flashing "blue and gold" signal here in the truck approving a fumoto purchase as well.

The Fumoto valves are quality products, I have had one on my Dodge Cummins for 13 years and not one bit of trouble!
