Speeding Ticket!

I wanted to see if anyone else has ever had this happen. I was traveling on 71 in Ohio and I saw police cars on both sides of the highway. They were pointing at cars to pull over. I didn't see them point at me so I continued on. About 2 miles down the road I get pulled over. The officer comes up to me and says they clocked me going 100 mph in a 65 zone. I looked at him in complete shock. I said that he must have the wrong vehicle because the most I was doing was 70. I forgot to mention I was in my car, not truck. He told me that the airplane had timed me between 2 points on the road and they were 100% accurate. The traffic was heavy and it was 3 lanes so I told him I thought they must have lost sight with my vehicle and turned it off to early. He said that wasn't possible so I knew I couldn't do anything but just take the ticket.

Obviously I need to fight this because that is considered a major violation. Has this ever happened to you and what would you do? One last thing, it would've been near impossible to go 100mph do to the heavy traffic on the road. This is very upsetting thinking that I am getting a ticket for something I didn't even do.

That is extreme and if your used to driving a truck threw Ohio youâ€™d know if you was doing 100 in a car! Plus any time your clocked by aircraft you bet higher a lawyer not sure if its still true but used to be able to beat them even if guilty because the officer if it is even a officer that clocked you is not the one giving you the ticket there for not the one appearing in court so the officer appearing in court is testifying second hand. And did not in fact witness you speeding! But it is the government so any thing can happen.

First thing get a lawyer - 100 MPH in a 65 is a serious ticket

Also my thoughts are the airplane clocking of vehicles is not perfect, it is a visual manner of clocking and is prone to a lot of various problems of accuracy and it can not be calibrated scientifically like laser and radar systems.

The Video from the cop car will support your point with the heavy traffic.

Been there and done that.

Despite my polite arguments the police officer insisted on providing us with a ticket. According to him, he was right and we were wrong. Ok.

I dump the whole matter with our lawyer, along with copies of our forward and sideways video with date/time stamp.

From the video it was determined we were not speeding.

I appreciate the work police officers do, but this wasn't one of their finer moments.

You need an attorney that operates in the ditrict that you will have to go to court in. Chances are he/she would know the Judge and might have a better chance then a stranger to the Judge.

Were you arrested? I know a person or two who have gotten tickets for going 100 mph in Ohio that were arrested, had to post bond,and had to go to trial. Are you sure you were going that fast?

Thanks for the replies. Surprisingly the officer was very nice and said I should slow down. I wasn't arrested and I think I was in shock with what I was being told. He also told me I should have my speedometer checked because they aren't wrong. He went into detail on how they do the clocking of cars. I am going to get an attorney and fight the ticket. The fine if I send it in is $210 and to get an attorney will be much more but I can't afford to have that on my license. Also, I have not had a speeding ticket in 6 years or any driving violation. My court date is on 10/16 and I'll post how it goes. Any more advice or experiences would be great.

Yep In my Younger days I got popped for 121 in a 55 on 77 near Dover I was Arrested had to post a high Bond My car was Impounded. Got a Lawyer and $3500.00 Later I was Found Guilty. Yes I learned my lesson.

Probably the reason he didn't arrest you was that he knew it was bogus. (He'd be S#!t up a creek if he arrested you under false pretenses.) He figured you'd just pay them the money and go on.

We value our CDL's and clean driving records, and so we take certain measures to protect ourselves in situations of false accusation.

The speedometer on the truck is verified every 4 months and we carry the results of each verification with us. We have a system that records audio & video in the vicinity of the truck and have that fact clearly marked on the truck as well as verbally informing any officer of this in a polite manner before conversation starts.

We already have a cab cam; however, your thread here has got me thinking that perhaps we should consider installing a cam focused specifically on the gauges. Either that or some sort of truck independant speed recording device. Displaying the last 20 minutes or so of recording along with the speedometer verification paperwork may cause an officer to have 2nd thought when issuing a ticket.

I've had a few experiences over the years with the QPP (Quebec Provincial Police) that were somewhat less than pleasant. So, I also know that some officers will refuse to back down once they have decided to issue a ticket and that solid evidence presented at the roadside may irritate them.

I am wondering if the computer in the car would record the top speed that the car has ever gone. Not sure what they are doing these days but that would be nice. All I would need to do is go to the dealer and have them print that report. I would just have to hope my wife doesn't speed!

I'm sure that type of report would be the maximum speed for the entire life of the car.

That's an interesting idea of a gauge cam because even if you drive the speed limit you can still be accused of speeding. Very good idea.

Unfortunetly the ECU does not record the top speed, it put in memory a bunch of other info, like driving behavior for trans shift points, etc...

On that note... many trucks, especially the newer ones have CAN or ODB connections for diagnotics and through that connection you could record the top speed and a lot of other info through a lap top or car (truck) pc.

when i had my fl60 and western star, i had the mech down load the enginge computer to see how the mileage was doing, and could tell you what the avg speed of truck was

also had highway masters phone that was tie into the truck computer
and my wife knew where i was and how fast i was going etc
one time fedexcc said one of there road spotters said i was speeding and need to slow down more and with the time and day etc
check out the highway master and sent them a copy and said i was not in tx at the time was here in newport news
