Speed and the gps

I have been using the GPS to maintain accurate speed, but I also have noticed if I drive 70mph or 62 mph, I get there in about the same time at 62mph in my 318 dodge one ton. I get 15 mph at 62mph and at 70 I get 13mpg, so guess what,,I do 62 and save money and have stopped using oil at the lower speed. PS, its alot safer, all the nitwits are doing 75 to 80 and I usually pass them 2 or 3 times on the way, they stop more for fuel I guess, My range is 500 miles a tank, amen........, me and my old throttle body Dodge ancient technology engine. 2002 MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND MAY ALL OF YOU HAVE A SAFE NEW YEAR TO COME...SKY

I've noticed the same thing with my GPS, if it tells me I will arrive at a certain time, even if I am doing 5 over the speed limit I get there at that time, so why bother speeding if it's not really gonna save you any time. I get behind a semi and save a little gas, not tailgating but close enough to enjoy the wind break of the truck in front of me.

I never went by the gps time. I used that as an estimated time and then drove at about 60-65mph. At this speed range I got 20-22mpg out of the gm vans so usually I could get close to 600 miles out of a tank. Could easily get 550+. The Sprinter of course has a smaller tank but gets nearly 700 miles to a tank (680 on the highway and 600 city/hwy). Note that loads would have to be under 1600lbs. Heavier ones sucked back a little more fuel.

The gps estimated times were great for giving me an idea of when I should be there and if I'm sort of on schedule.

My tot tom allows you to set a max speed and will sound if you exceed. It is a great feature when traffic does not allow you to stay on cruise control.

have to agree that at 70 mph's mile per hour miles go down
best is about 60 to 63 mph

using gps for your speed is most accurate
as speed on dash is off by 1.5 mph
