So talked to my soon to be driving partner...

I talked on the phone with the person I am going to sharing the straight truck with, and he seemed nice very well spoken and knowledgeable about the nature of the beast as well as the business. So he pretty much told me he would show me the ropes and all that, he also said that Panther orientation is pretty much, not sweat it and just don't worry get your hat (I guess Pather gives you a hat) and then he will teach how everything is done on the road.

My question, is Panther orientation really that bad? Is the best part the food or when its over?

Any orientation is great when it is over.;) Panther's is pretty easy to breeze through. Take notes and make sure you pay attention when they are covering the qual-com. Other than that, it will be fine. Food is great in the summer if the are barbecuing.

I am of the opinion that if an orientation is quick or entertaining for a CMV operator, the safety department at that company is probably not covering everything required. And they're certainly not covering their own a$$es.

Not totally agreeing with that. Orientation where I'm at now was small (8 people) and they made it very entertaining just to keep everyone's attention.

That said panthers orientation was very boring and the food sucked BUT at the same time I was there for a job and not food and entertainment so it really didn't bother me.

The key to surviving panther's orientation is to drink plenty of coffee to keep yourself up. Bring your own lunch because there food is not the best, unless you like the taste of cardboad tasting burnt pizza. Oh and one more thing, just to make yourself laugh @ the corny jokes you will hear.

Having been leased to Panther for 6 years, 10 months and 12 days I should be qualified to answer this question, but alas, I am not. I have never been to a Panther orientation nor set foot on Panther property!

How did you get to be so lucky by avoiding the lame jokes, cardboard tasting pizza and tedium of a panther orientation?

I was OOS my first 12 days and then went directly into the Special Needs division.
