Defiant Jean defends participation in seal ritual

RESOLUTE BAY, Nunavut–Michaëlle Jean launched a passionate defence of Canada's seal hunt against international critics who have decried her participation in an Inuit ritual.

In fact, the Governor General's response could hardly be more defiant: Jean was invited by a group of Inuit to join them on a seal hunt Wednesday evening.

And she accepted.

She said in an interview with The Canadian Press she was aware how her gesture Monday at a community festival in Rankin Inlet would be interpreted.

When she was presented with a seal carcass, Jean cut through the flesh, swallowed a piece of its heart and wiped her blood-spattered fingers clean with tissue.

Now thanks to all the puppy lovers the Inuit will really suffer...the government (taxpayers) will have to support them. The EU and such have taken away their only self supporting means...

Just another example of the white man forcing their definition of culture down anothers throat! With complete disregard for anothers rights/customs/ and livelihood.

What does it have to do white the white man? Since when does someone need to be white to be ignorant of another cultures ways and customs. Ignorance is color blind.

Because before we were liberated that is the way most of us talked...
Your critique is proof of the "New World" thinking of political correctness....White man put the Red man down....pretty simple and basic....

It has nothing to do with political correctness at all. It is a simple fact. Ignorant people come in all colors and has nothing to do with being a "white man". People who oppose the seal hunts in my opinion are just ignorant it has zilch to do with their skin color.

I was being kinda general, you are quite correct..ignorance has no skin colour....
