Senator Opposes milage tax

Well sometimes these other countries have better ideas than we do, we seem to be stuck in the same old box for the past 40 years.

If you haven't noticed, licensing a car or truck in this state causes the same issue but we don't see people not being able to cough up the money for that. If the gas price is lower by the $1.20 a gallon, then they need to figure out how to save for the bill or not drive. It isn't like they can't figure out how to use a pen and paper to record the mileage and then a calculator to figure out how much they owe.

I am not advocating a GPS device that records your mileage but use the same technology that the dealers/insurance companies use to read the ecm mileage. NOTHING MORE.

As for the amount of taxes, I disagree with the idea that a tractor/trailer has the same price as my Triumph but rather they should pay what is assumed is wear on the roads they travel. With that, I would also expect smart people not to cry about the way the tax is collected but rather how the money is used, meaning a change in the specs of the road to make them last longer and more uniformed. I do agree with the need that all the money goes right to the funding of only the roads, nothing else.

I guess it all depends on what that per mile rate is. I still say everyone should pay the same rate and roads SHOULD be built to handle the trucks, right from the start. Truck weight is not the main problem with roads not holding up, poor drainage is.

Will this be only Federal? What will the States do? Will Federal funds ONLY go to Federal Roads? How will the money be distributed to the States? Will the Feds still have the same "blackmail" system? You know, lower the BAC or lose you funding?

I don't know what the insurance companies have to check mileage. They have NEVER checked mine. I tell them what it is and I pay my bill. I tell the truth and they don't question it. Think the government will do that? Bet they ASSUME that I am lying and find someway to plug into or monitor my private, it is PRIVATE, vehicle.
