School Zone

While driving around 1 am Saturday morning I was going thru an area and the posted speed limit was 55. However, when I approached a school zone I noticed the warning lights were flashing indicating it should be 35 mph. Knowing that it was 1am on a Saturday morning in July that something must have malfunctioned with the warning light system. I did take my foot off the gas which put me at approximately 48 mph as I passed. Sure enough as I passed I saw several flashes behind me indicating the automatic camera was going off. Should I expect a present in the mail in a week or two? And if so, it should be easy to fight, correct? or am I screwed?

Flashing lights are pretty unambiguous, regardless of whether school is in session or not. In some school zones they have the lights flashing for reduced speed 24/7 because they don't want people to get into the habit of driving faster through there. Other times the lights may still be flashing due to some event that was held at the school a few hours before, like a ballgame or a concert, or even a Boy Scout meeting.

Won't hurt to try and fight it, but generally the posted speed limit is gonna be enforced, especially if there are flashing lights involved.

Yes, it should be easy to fight it. Yes, you're screwed. Good luck with it though.
