If he was another JFK it would be a vast improvement. As he's surely another progressive he is no better than what we have and potentially worse.

Another one-issue candidate just promoting his cause. Not a serious contender.

I heard that a MAGA audience gave a standing ovation when someone announced that he should be Trump’s VP pick.

The only way that MAGA votes for RFK jr. even a little bit is if Trump isn’t on the ballot for President.

From Google Bard:
  • Kennedy has received financial support from MAGA donors. For example, Timothy Mellon, a conservative billionaire who donated more than $20 million to Trump's Save America PAC in 2020, is the largest single donor to Kennedy's super PAC.
  • Volunteering for his campaign. Some MAGA supporters have volunteered their time and effort to Kennedy's campaign. For example, in March 2023, a group of MAGA supporters in New Hampshire organized a rally for Kennedy.
  • Promoting his candidacy on social media. Many MAGA supporters have promoted Kennedy's candidacy on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. They have shared his posts, written articles about him, and created memes and videos in support of his campaign.
If Trump remains on the ballot, and Kennedy is on the ballot as an independent, I am not expecting large numbers of MAGA-aligned voters to vote for Kennedy. I am expecting a small percentage of them to do so. In a tight race, small percentages are the difference between victory and defeat.

The other thing to keep in mind is it's primary season now. There are all sorts of candidates to choose from. When a pollster asks someone about Kennedy now, the answer may be quit different than it would be after the field has fundamentally changed and (assuming it happens) an independent Kennedy is a viable alternative to the nominees of the two major parties.

MAGA won’t vote for him over Trump AT ALL. Some wouldn’t mind him being on the ticket with Trump because on a couple issues he is very similar to his position and because many of the other VP candidates are wrong on issues like funding Ukraine endlessly.

Kennedy fits right in with Maga.

RFK Jr does have some unconventional ideas but he certainly does not "fit right in with MAGA" Republicans. He's against any govt regulation on abortion and suggests that military spending should be cut by 67% - two automatic disqualifiers for most all conservatives.

However, he might get some votes from Anybody But Biden Democrats or moderate Republicans because he does have some fairly reasonable positions on a lot of issues (see below).

Will Kennedy Pull More from Trump or Biden?

"... in recent weeks, two polls have found Kennedy at 14 percent when included as a third option with Biden and Trump.

"Kennedy’s support so far is coming roughly evenly from Biden and former President Donald Trump. But third-party candidacies can be unpredictable, and Kennedy’s anti-vaccination stance gives him more room to draw from Republicans than Democrats.

"Kennedy’s super PAC has its own polling showing the son of the former senator and attorney general drawing slightly more votes from Trump than Biden, though the differences were well within the margin of error."

More Evidence Kennedy Pulls More From Trump

The Trump campaign itself is worried about Kennedy pulling votes from Trump, and their fears are backed by polling, it seems.

"The sleepy countdown to the 2024 presidential primaries got a jolt on Monday when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped his primary challenge to President Joe Biden and announced plans to run as an independent – a move that triggered a barrage of attacks from former President Donald Trump and Republicans worried over polling that shows the longtime Democrat could gnaw into Trump’s support." Recent Poll of a Three-Way Race

Interesting new polling data is out. This poll asked about a three-way race between Biden, Trump and Kennedy. Kennedy pulled a surprising 22%. It is not unusual to see third-party and independent candidates poll high like this long before elections. But the closer the voters get to the actual Election Day, the less they tend to support such candidates. If you see a third-party or independent candidate showing strong in the polls near Election Day, like in October, that spells big trouble for the two major parties.
