Knuffingen Airport, based on the Hamburg Airport, opened on May 4th, 2011. Pretty kewl stuff. The video is pre-opening, but still impressive.

The real airport in Hamburg covers almost 6 square kilometers. This model covers only 150 square meters. That’s a lot of airport to fit into that size display. The creators were able to fit in 40 planes that take off and land, and 90 vehicles that trundle about the runways automatically, plus an additional 500 cars, 50 trains, 15,000 figurines, 1,000 wagons, 300 buildings, 10,000 trees, 40,000 lights, 100 signals, and 200 switches.
It took seven years to build and cost $4.8 million.

Parking lot and main terminal.
If it weren't for the giants in the background upper right, this would look real.
