I don't think they are that great, as OOIDA just won a huge settlement from your company with recourse going all the way to the top man at Leder. I hope all of the other companies with similar practices all get what they deserve.

Mr. Rice,
you are mistaken the company!!
This is Leader Enterprises not "LEDER"
You better get your information straight before posting something unfair like this.

These are two seperate companies. OOIDA is not involved in any suits involving Leader. There latest venture is going after Landstar. Court case review ect can be found at www.ooida.com

Hey gang,

I am not trying to start and trouble or anger anybody, but this OOIDA, I briefly looked at their site; is this a good thing, or a bad thing? It almost appears to be the equivalent of the UAW, and now I must go wash my mouth out for even mentioning those 3 letters. The only reason I ask, is because whenever I hear of some group that has a bunch of law suits going on, especially against companies that I have heard nothing but good things about, it makes me think negatively. How many ridiculous laws and regulations do we have thrust upon us constantly, as a result of over-zealous trial lawyers and people looking to make a quick buck. Pleae, I am just looking to be informed, not trying to insult. My ignorance with OOIDA is admitted freely. Thanks.

A lot of people mistake OOIDA for a union . They are not . You pay a membership fee once a year . Your spouse gets a reduced fee as do all drivers for trucks you own . The lawsuits are on behalf of owner operators that got ripped off by large companies . The suits are mostly filed on behalf of little guys that couldn't afford to take on large corporations . The suits are mostly involving things like overcharging for fuel , improper handling of escrow fees , etc.. OOIDA is also the main force fighting anti-trucker groups like Public Citizen , Crash , and PATT. I recently discovered the people that founded PATT are no longer involved with it . In the beginning they were actually benefitting truckers . Now they oppose them . If you go to ooida.com and e-mail them or phone them they will be glad to answer any questions.

OOIDA is more of a lobbyist group in Washington. They are really the only group that represents owner operators. The ATA represents trucking companies but not the drivers. If everyone played by the rules they wouldn't be needed. However, that is rarely the case. Most of there cases do center around class action suits where a breach has occurred within a carriers lease to its drivers. They as well are involved in state by state issues that affect drivers whether o/o's or company drivers. Not a bad voice for the industry that would be lacking otherwise.

Thank you for the information. I am going to check these guys out again. I will consider myself "informed." I think any of you guys who do a majority of automotive work, would agree with me when I say I start to break out in a cold sweat and my blood pressure starts to rise when anyone mentions a union, and OOIDA apparently is NOT that.

I know the feeling. Be assured that OOIDA is not a union.
Give them a call and let them explain what all they do.
