What is wrong with this statement?

General Motors estimates that its health care costs add $1,500 to the price of a car - a cost foreign rivals don't have to pay because their health care is funded though government. At home, meanwhile, health care inflation is not just crimping profits; it's eating money that otherwise could go for raises or other employee benefits. health care premiums have risen by 87% in just six years.

if you want the government to provide you with healthcare do what i did. join the military. get shot up overseas some where, and then you get all the government provided healthcare you need from the va. or you can do like a guy i used to play football with in high school. commit capital murder get senteced to life without the chance of parole. the state of arkansas will be taking care of him for the rest of his life. seriously though countries like isreal provide health care, but every boy and girl have to serve in the military from ages 19 to 21. it's all in how you look at it. plus it has to be paid for somehow. probobly increase taxes. just what we need right?

What's wrong with it? The "entitled" crowd will say it's that the government isn't paying for our health care. NEWSFLASH, when it comes to the source of government money WE are the government. The elected government produces nothing. Production is the only thing that creates revenue. Revenue (aka income) is the only thing that pays for anything. So when the elected government, a sponge or leach, pays for anything it isn't them paying. WE are paying. Look at the pretty red/blue map. The only places that are flooded with democratic color are places like Chicago, NYC and other metropolitan areas that are flooded with "entitleds". The rest of the country, the working and producing part, show the intelligence to know THEY are the producers and don't need the leaches sucking every dollar they earn to pay for more and more and more for the "entitleds".

Thanks guys.

The VA is a perfect example of what we will face. There was a movie about the VA made in 70's - can't remember the name of it or who was in it but it was a perfect illustration of the problem with universal health care that we will face.

But my point fosuses on this comment;
"General Motors estimates that its health care costs add $1,500 to the price of a car - a cost foreign rivals don't have to pay because their health care is funded though government."

If we look at the competition that GM has, it is a foreign car company that makes their product here in the US, not in their home country. The cost of healthcare is not paid for by the country and companies like Toyota, BMW and Mercedes don't seem to have the same problem that GM has and brings up the point that I have made before, GM has always used some crisis to slim it's workforce and close plants to prop up its stock and increase its profits.

i'm gonna say something. i know it is gonna get twisted into something that it isn't and people will get offened i apoligize in advance. the truth is alot of those forgein auto makers that are building new plants are building them in the south. i.e. toyota in san antone, hino in marion,ar, nissan in murfressboro, tn i think it's a nissan or honda plant outside of jackson,ms. the point i'm making is from my observations people in the south work for less than people in the north. one main reason is because it cost less to leave in most places in the south than it does up north. alot of people in the south will work a job if they don't have all the benefits to go along with the job. they just want a job. i know people in their fifties and sixties down here who have never had a job with benefits in their whole life. their only benefit is having a place to work maybe a christmas bonus if they are lucky. alot of people are glad to get off the farms and work year round. i have also talked to people from the north in their fifties and sixties who say they have never worked a job wihtout benefits, and say they refuse to do so. Not all but alot. i'm not trying to start anything it's just my observations. their was a guy who posted on here recently who said he was selling his place in maryland to move to arkansas because it was so much cheaper to live here. down here people are happy to get a job 40 hours a week starting out at 7.00-7.50 an hour. that's manufactoring or whatever. a 9.00 an hour job down here starting out with no benefits is what we call a d@mn good job. facts of life. i hope no one was offened. if so i'm sorry.

another thing is GM maybe just looking for excuses.

rich,
nothing wrong with using the va. i use nothing but the va for my healthcare. they tick me off sometimes but i guess doctors will most likely be doctors i just don't feel like they listen to me when i'm answering the questions i ask. most of my doc are from overseas. and i have a hard time understanding them.
here's the point i was making about the va. WE EARNED IT!!! nobody is givin us anything at the va we don't deserve. i feel we have payed for it in advance. i have service connected disability so i don't get a bill from the va.
my problem is alot of people want something for nothing. plain and simple.

It may be better than it was, but I know a lot of situations don't have positive outcomes at the VA.

Since they moved the Detroit area VA from Allen Park to Detroit (can't figure out why the location was selected in the slums but hey it is political) the care has improved a lot but you got to admit that there is a lot of room for improvment.

I still stand by my comments that anything that the government has its hands in always has limitations and ends up being a mess.
