Canada Possible repercussions

Today near noon 8 tractor trailers were involved along with a pickup truck in an accident on the 401 westbound near Mavis Rd exit in Mississauga. of course in this stretch the trucks are just getting upto speed so usually are following too close and this appears to be the case of them all following each other into hitting the guy in front (pickup was in lead and was rearended).

The MTO has been cracking down on smaller trucks lately in MIssissauga but now the cops will look more closely for speeding and following too close on and off the highway.

So keep your distance and smile as that car or SUV butts in in front of you and takes your stopping space. We all try to be careful but it is getting more difficult to negotiate the traffic in many cities today, as there are more and more buggies out there and no new roads and more construction.

Just a word to the wise, watch your speed and distance in Ontario for the next while as I'm sure the coppers will be looking.

Lots of Peel Region (local) cops sitting (hiding) on that stretch today.

I run the 401 from the 402 to the 400 almost weekly and wish somebody would crack down on the tailgaters . I know the largest percentage of Canadian drivers are safe professionals but there are too many idiots out there that will run right up on your rear bumper . Combine that with four wheelers that will run up a ramp to pass you on the right and cut in 2 feet in front of your bumper and driving the GTA is a nerve wracking experience .

You know why Michigan cars don't need a front license plate?

They follow so close no one can read it anyways.

PS. I haven't taken a load in, out or through Michigan since 2006. I will if the money is right, but I'd rather stay south of their boarder.

Well the worst place I've seen for bad drivers who not only tailgate but cut you off with zero space to space is in Montreal during slowhour (some call it rush hour) and I've seen them rush up the ending right lane right to the armco barrier and then just turn left into the left lane without a care that it's a car or truck their cutting off. I mean right upto the armco with only a foot or so to spare! They don't signal lane changes or exiting and signals seem to be a wasted install on their buggies. Tailgating, well that goes without saying. I usually try to time my passage thru Montreal in off peak hours or at least try to time the flows of traffic. At least there is an AM radio station in english with news and traffic reports I think in the 1300 range (could be off there).

I'm surprised at how many ppl say Detroit is the worst area to drive... especially when you bring the topic up in Chicago. To me, Chicago, followed by Atlanta is the worst, outside of the Eastern seaboard.

If anyone has experience with Atlanta, the police there have been cracking down on cars cutting in front of big trucks, then stopping. Is this what is happening in Toronto; or are trucks really tailgating that badly? I wouldn't be surprised it's the former, and the government claiming the latter.

Detroit doesn't bother me, nor Chicago...I guess growing up in Toronto toughened me up!! BUT now however the driver quality has really gone downhill with all the immigrants!! The Asians drive like insane in and out and the Eastern olive skined ladies drive like grannys kinda hard to see out your blind spotted when they have a scarf around their face!!! And Merging seems to be a lost art just about everywhere!! In the last year or so I've never seen so many stopping at the end of a merge lane!!!

The trucks are tailgating . They'll run up behind you and not even keep a 2 second interval . Meanwhile the 4 wheelers are passing then cutting in less than a car length ahead of you .
