Political visits

Yesterday I spent a good part of my day visiting my Congressman and both Senators local offices. I had a nice visit with their aide and discussed issues such as fuel surcharges, broker skimming, hours of service etc. that affect our livelihood as well as everyone's safety. Together we prepared notes they told me would be forwarded to the legislative assistant in D.C. that works on transportation issues. My impression is the visits were very positive and they will follow up on the discussions. I also believe they take someone seriously who takes the time and effort to come into the office and talk face to face. I'd encourage everyone who has access to a local office to do the same.

That's interesting Leo and a great suggestion. Makes me wonder how many hands it would take to count the number of drivers/fleet owners/owner-operators that have actually done this? Things that make ya go hmm.:rolleyes:

Thank you Leo, I have done this both here and in Washington but I come in with one issue and one personal example.

My initial issue was a requirement that 100% fsc pass through to the person actually paying for the fuel, with accountability required. That led to additional dialogue which covered the tangential topics. I plan to visit again late May and cover the issues again when I'm back for my daughter's graduation.

If you go back a second time it'll be official, you'll have to add Political Lobbyist to your sig. :)

I make 3-4 visits to my state reps office during the bi-annual sessions. They greet me by name when I walk in the door. I guess I'm already at that point on the state level.

That's pretty kewl, Leo. I think I've visited mine 3-4 times total. I should make it a point to go more often.

Well, if I look closely through the glass and carefully read lips just prior to that the guy is saying "Oh no, it's him again." :D
