Better to do something than nothing. At least they're talking about doing it. I think it will help if we have more of our own oil.

Drilling is only a bandaid solution for us living now Not a cure for the big picture for our great, great grandchildren....oh yeah this is the NOW generation the ME crowd.

Well OVM, guess what?
We live in the NOW time not the Great Grandkids time and we have to FIRST stabilize our country and energy sources in order for us to COME UP with better solutions in the near FUTURE.
Whether or not any new drilling will last more than 15 years does not matter, what matters is the removing of the shackles we have in order to explore and use OUR natural resources.
I honestly DON'T care what happens in 30 or 50 years, WE can only deal with the NOW at this moment and my HOPE is that people see through the political BS and not vote a socialist into office based on being a false prophet. If you think things are bad now, just wait. The party of the people has had 16 years to help the situation and they have done less than the big old bad Grand Old Party has. These Party of the people in the government are at fault, but we hold the ultimate responsibility because of our ignorance, selfishness, greed and stupidity that stirred by their great idea that we must be concern with what others have to compare what we don't have and not promoting self reliance and taking responsibility. At least with the GOP, there is some hope but it is fading fast.
Just remember that most of use have no choice in the matter, we can't switch to an alternative fuel or a Hybrid truck. We don't have these options available to us and have to do with what we have in the NOW. It would be great to get 18 MPG out of my truck, I think it is possible if we stop worrying about what happens on Mars and worry about finding solutions with our tax money.
Its hard to believe the most powerful country in the world can grind to a stop because of a commodity not under it's control...seems past priorities got mixed up....If the fuel problems were under controll alot of other problems would fall into line....

I think a lot of the problem is that we ( USA ) are too busy
trying to take care of the rest of the world. We have let our
situation get out of hand while fixing things for the rest of
the world. If we don't get our nose out of the other countries
and get back to the business of taking care of US and doing
things to get the USA back on track.. we are going to wake
up one day under the rule of China or Russia. Just my opinion
and I don't know much about politics..

I for one believe China will be our downfall....the only reason they need us is to buy thier cheap goods....if and when they find another buyer we will be disposable...they'll call in all thier money and we'll see a crash like no other before this.

No OVM, you got it backwards, our priorities are set on controlling and micromanaging things instead of letting the market and the country's companies control things.
The feds and the states should not have the right to tell an oil company that can't drill on private land or public waters. Florida is being so stupid that they are worried about the tourist industry that they have been rock solid not to have a drilling rig 6 miles off the coast of Florida but they are don't get that their tourist industry is completely dependent on inexpensive oil products, so they need to make a decision and forget the idea that someone sitting in their time share can see 6 miles away. California on the other hand said no drilling, so I say to California no federal funds. You know there is oil in the great lakes, I say lets get it before the Chinese make a deal with the Canadians.
This idea that we need to regulate things is a means of controlling not the companies but the people themselves. The oil situation goes back to the breakup of Standard oil and the regulations that were put into place to prevent another monopoly. This single issue is not alone, the other is the law that allows environmental groups to sue in federal court (remember I said the congress and the president controls the courts) which has cheapen our rights but also open the door for every lawsuit to take place over the protection of every creature, factual or imaginary.

You can't buy the research for the future stuff if you aren't making a profit today. The future stuff isn't here today to fund itself into existence. The economy has to grow out of the oil age and that will only happen if the market is free to do so.

Fla Governor has flipped on that issue and now supports drilling off the Fla beaches and it's in large part thanks to the Newt Gingrich Drill here Drill now petition which I've also signed. The majority of americans now supports this strategy and it's only a matter of time before the democrats in congress bend under all of this pressure. Just announcing that we will start to drill will immediately cause the fall of prices on wall street no matter how many speculators there are. John McCain has flipped on this issue as well but the socialist Obama stays firm on it.
Doesn't matter what OBanana wants if we flip Congress we can over ride a veto!!
