As a new and inexperienced driver I have an opportunity to drive a company van cross country and Canada They provide the maintenance I supply the gas and would be paid 45 cents a mile is this a reasonable salary to expect.

Most of the non-owners I've met and heard of operate on a 60-40 split basis with the side buying fuel getting 60%. Most vans seem to be paid 77cpm which would yield 46.2cpm for the 60%. Most drivers, whether van or truck, also get paid the entire fuel surcharge amount and should get it since they are paying for the fuel. Most drivers also pay whatever tolls for roads/bridges etc. they encounter. If you are getting 45cpm and paying absolutely nothing besides fuel and tolls that's not a bad deal provided you get the entire fuel surcharge amount. If you don't get the entire fsc and have to pay other things then it's not so hot.

I want to thankyou for the reply to my question. Everything is so new and before I make a final selection on whatever company I choose I just needed some extra input. I had failed to mention that this job does pay me the fuel surcharge also.

Again thanks
