Parking map up and running

Some of you may have seen the thread in which I suggested that we start a custom google map listing parking spots nationwide. My particular interest in it is listing parking areas in which substantial shade can be found, but I'm sure other uses can be found, like safe parking in urban areas or parking near attractions. Turtle replied something to the effect of, "Great idea, you set it up."

Well, I did it. I even created the first entry, and I'm hoping that you will all add dozens or hundreds more. That way, when you deliver in Poughkeepsie or Pawtucket or Pismo Beach or Walla Walla or Waterloo or BFE, you can pull up this custom map and find a safe place to park. The address is http://tinyurl.com/eoparkmap.

When adding, please flag it on the right spot and include details.

Any chance we can make this a sticky?

Well, it's only going to be "us," right? It's not discoverable by the public, and the whole concept is that we all put the parking places we find into it. Having one or two guys edit it just isn't realistic.

This is a great idea. We added a location in the Portland metro area (Walmart) that does not allow overnight parking.

We will be adding more entries as we recall them but if people can please add airport parking locations I think it would be a bonus. There are some airports like JFK and SFK that can be incredibly difficult to navigate during rush hour and we've found that we can usually park over-night in the cargo lots where we deliver.

We might also stick to using the red button for non-parking locations unless there is consensus to remove the non-parking areas because they could potentially take up to much space.

Might also suggest saving an unlisted copy of this map and it's locations in case someone decides to wreak havoc on the posted map or just makes some editing mistakes.

It IS a great idea, alright, but doesn't seem to work well in practice. Some people can't see the edit button, and like you say, it's vulnerable to malevolent jerks who like to pee on everything reasonable and decent. If I could think of a better way to do this, I'd implement that, instead.
