Who did you hear that from? If you didn't hear it from your recruiter or an officer of the company then it's worth a cup of coffee... if you add a dollar to it. One of the most important rules in this business is do not believe most of what you hear. You are not required to hand over any money at orientation. You need money though because you won't get paid for about 3 weeks and you'll get hungry before that.
