(Background info - ran as team in straight truck for Panther for 15 months as independent contractor. Been "off the road" since Labor Day. Got tired/frustrated of dispatch games, thought I could do better at home in my old field of nursing - WRONG! That field is dry in this area, plus it was easier to deal with dispatch than with nursing home politics, the residents and their oh so lovely families. I want to run as a solo with Panther now.)
YES, I know a team make more money any way - but that option is off the table.
My questions are:
As a solo independent contractor - would I be making more $ in a cargo van or in a straight truck? (yes I know it depends on the "split" and who pays the fuel). Any suggestions on what to look for when talking/negotiating with an owner? (Beside getting it in writing)
Who gets more load offers - CV or ST? (When we ran team ST it seemed at times we where hit alot with CV offers based on weight/size/distance/time/RPM.)
I spoke with a recruiter at Panther and he said he will put me back in the system and contact owners who are Panther approved. But, it seemed to me he was leading me to drive a ST instead of a CV, was he blowing smoke up my leg? He led me to believe a solo ST made more $. Any comments on that?
I was leaning toward a CV based on lower fuel costs, the past history of load offers we receeved, passing more CVs when I was driving. Also a CV is gas not diesel - if I paid the fuel it would concievably be cheaper for me to relocate myself.
Thanks for your input,
