Sounds like there may be more to the story. Panther pays a flat rate per mile of $1.20 to $1.35 to the truck. It may be another company that operates on the .58 percent basis. To my knowledge Panther has no pay plans that pay a percentage.

I hope he's talking about van drivers, that rate is too low and really an insult to a class D driver. Is panther eating the loss, to keep steady business for its fleet? Rockford is a pretty decent area, for loads, even if you have to deadhead 100 miles in any direction..

Textron in Rockford is about to close there doors anyway. We still get the Rockford Register Star and the reports have been out for months that they will be leaving town. This may be a last ditch effort to make the company have black ink instead of red. Luckily we have free will to not transport cheap, heavy freight.

There's nothing paid on a percentage basis unless that's something they don't discuss in orientation. Everything we were told is either a set rate per mile or a set dollar amount like border crossing at $37.50 for crossing. Either it's a different carrier doing a percentage basis or the information is incorrect for Panther.
