So i took a load down to el paso tx late thrus afternoon. Got in there early AM Sat, stayed till 6 am, then unloaded. My rt down just didn't seem the quickest (per the GPS) , so i routed myself out. I picked I-40 in Santa Rosa NM.
Now bein a 55 y/o guy, i had always has a goal to drive as much of Rt 66 that was able to be driven on. So finding myself close, I called dispatch and went out of service. I googled Rt 66 and found a great site and set out to "get my kicks!"
While not all of it is driveable, alot still is and there are some really great sights to see. ( a restored texico stationb in Tx, the 1st Phillips Gas station in McClean TX, restored and many more.
I took all of sat afternoon, worked my way to amarillo and had some great BBQ at Rudys ad spent the night there. 6th st in amarillo is old 66 and has many great old building and signage.
I took off sun morning and drove as much of the old rd as i could and finished it off in okie city and went back in service.
Some day i'll start in Chicago and go from the east to la. But thats for another trip, oh I also stopped at the Rt 66 Museum in Clinton Okla., neat place if you find yourself out that way!
All n' All, a good trip to Texas abd back.
