Nuclear Iran: Welcome to the Bomb Club

From the New Media Journal:
Iran Holds Enough Uranium
for Nuclear Bomb
Daniel Dombey, The Financial Times
Iran has built up a stockpile of enough enriched uranium for one nuclear bomb, United Nations officials acknowledged on Thursday. In a development that comes as the Obama administration is drawing up its policy on negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear program, UN officials said Iran had produced more nuclear material than previously thought. They said Iran had accumulated more than one ton of low enriched uranium hexafluoride at a facility in Natanz. If such a quantity were further enriched it could produce more than 20kg of fissile material – enough for a bomb. “It appears that Iran has walked right up to the threshold of having enough low enriched uranium to provide enough raw material for a single bomb,” said Peter Zimmerman, a former chief scientist of the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. The new figures come in a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog, released on Thursday. This revealed that Iran’s production of low enriched uranium had previously been underestimated. When the agency carried out an annual stocktaking of Natanz in mid-November Iran had produced 839kg of low enriched uranium hexafluoride – more than 200kg more than previously thought. Tehran produced an additional 171kg by the end of January. “It’s sure certain that if they didn’t have it [enough] when the IAEA took these measurements, they will have it in a matter of weeks,” Mr. Zimmerman said. Iran’s success in reaching such a “breakout capacity” – a stage that would allow it to produce enough fissile material for a bomb in a matter of months – crosses a “red line” that for years Israel has said it would not accept. UN officials emphasize that to produce fissile material Iran would have to reconfigure its Natanz plant to produce high enriched uranium rather than low enriched uranium – a highly visible step that would take months – or to shift its stockpile to a clandestine site.

Not to worry however - Barack Hussein Obama is going to open "discussions" with them, so everything will be OK.;)

"UN officials said Iran had produced more nuclear material than previously thought."
No doubt they were "Shocked - Shocked!!" at this discovery. I know I've mentioned this before, but the actions of this Iranian buildup over the past several years is stunningly parallel to Hitler's buildup of Nazi Germany in the years prior to WW2. They have been developing this fissile material and testing delivery systems while the rest of the world sits back and watches. What happens if/when they form an alliance with other rogue states like Venezuela and North Korea or - God forbid - the fragile political situation changes in Pakistan the two of them start getting cozy? I hope somebody in our government has their eye on this situation, because once they develop the bomb and the missiles to deliver it the rest of the world is in big trouble. Given this doomsday scenario, the wisdom of the Iraq war starts to come into focus. With them as an ally, we'll be in a lot better position to deal with Iran (assuming the Obama administration has a clue about that) than if Saddam were still in power.

No one should be surprized when they use one either. We knew 20 years ago that Iran wanted weapons like this and have been working towards it all along. We knew Iraq had WMD's. Most of Iraq's were most likey moved to Syria priot to our moving in. We have found over 200 old nerve gas warheads there along with the 500 tons of yellow cake. Obama is now suggesting we cut our Defense spended by 10%. Part of that cut will include cancelling the F22 program. The F22 is one of if not the most advanced military aircraft in the world. It goes a very long way to insuring our air supremecy in any conflict. We will need it badly if we are forced to go into Iran. This nation hired a person with no experience or understanding of the military or it's uses. That mistake is coming back to haunt us quickly. As we become weaker we will be more open to attack. Our enemies distain the week. Obama can still pull this out if he would wise up. He needs to fire MOST of his security advisers and get people in there who have some backround and experience. I would suggest that he make Jerry Curry his Chief Security Adviser and LISTEN to him. Many in here have said that experience did not matter for the position. I still disagree with that point. This administrations lack of it is going to cost many many lives. The defense of the Nation is way to important to play politics. Most Americans have no idea just of dangerous the world is. They are easily fooled by kind words and feel good policies. Those things WILL get you killed. The ONLY sure way to prevent major wars and attacks on this country is to have the strongest military on the planet. The stronger the military the less likey we will have to use it. The weaker we get the more likely we will have to. Good luck to us all, we are going to need it. Layoutshooter

Its all ok, Barry will talk to uncle Iamadumbazz and the rest of iran and the muslum nations and they will be just fine with the U.S. and Barrys new Change and Hope....

Besides, are you saying that the muslums of the iran and the ME want to do the U.S. harm? While i never.......

You are 100% right Layout, we need the storngest military in the world and we need to use it whenever the MILITARY think we need to. We have let the lib politicians decide our military policy for way too long.....

Personally I think we missed the chance to turn iran into a sheet of glass last yr. Bush bowed to the libs and wouldn't back and help israel...our loss...

We did not need to turn Iran or any place else into a sheet of glass. I joke about doing that from time to time. It is left over gallows humor from my prior life. We are going to quickly lose the ability to have meaningful input in world affairs. That is the first result of a weak military. We blew several chances over the years to avoid conflicts, wars or police actions. Not stopping Hitler prior to 1939 comes to mind. Not taking on Russia when they started the so-called "Cold War" in 1948 is another. They were not all that strong yet and we were the premier military power in the world at the time. Not taking desisive action cost 10's of millions of lives. Just because there is not a big time shooting war going on at any given time does not mean there is peace. Peace can only happen when all of the worlds Stalins and Hitlers are gone. It most likely will not happen in my lifetime or my grand-daughters. It can never happen with our present defense policies. We are NOT the evil in the world. Iran, Syria, Russia, North Korea, China and several other countires fit that role. I fear that this Administration will either agree with, ignore or just try to talk them out of thier evil ways. Talking is the best and first choice, always, but it is only effective from a position of strength. We are going to give up that strength to "Appear" like we are "Good Guys" in the eyes of the world. That is a "Fools Mission". Layoutshooter

they will keep talking right up to the time Iran decides that all will will do is talk more if the bomb Israel and then after tens of thousands are killed that instead of getting scolded for it that they are going to get bombed back to the stone age, which won't really be that much destruction for them as most of their citizens already are living in stone age conditions.

something besides talk that they ignore needs to be done now or the world needs to be prepared for www III and if that happens I figure we will see the end of times for the human race.

WW3 was fought between the years of 1948-1985 give or take a year or two. We fought the Soviets all over the world. Many called it the "Cold War" but hundreds of thousands died fighting. WW4 Starting in 1979 in my book, when Iran took over our Embasy. I have no idea how it will continue but I don't like the direction this administration is going. Weakness is NEVER good.
