I agree with a large part of that except I feel that communities do owe it to their youth to have activities such as parks and playgrounds.

When I was in high school my fellow skateboarders and I formed a club with the specific purpose of fundraising to build a skatepark. We gained approval from the city council for a site located on a dead end stretch of an existing park and began fundraising. We raised 250,000 over the course of 2 years but when we donated the money to build the skatepark a new playground and soccer field were erected instead and the city passed a skateboard/rollerblade ban for city parks. Taught all of us a big lesson, don't trust anyone but yourself cause hardwork rarely pays off.

We had parks, vary rarely used them, there was nothing to do there. We did use the ball fields and ice rinks. MOST of the time we were fishing, hunting and shooting. We roamed for HOURS in the woods. Cities are just BORING!

Kids are owed a roof over their heads, proper food and clothing and a proper upbringing, BY THEIR PARENTS! It is not my responsibility to provide entertainment for them.

Parks etc are fine, assuming there is money to pay for them.
