Shoot! He has as much on that van as would most D units. Wonder if he knew to put cargo on the inside, or could it be that is his home?

Newbie dispatcher thought the customer asking for a D unit meant send a Dodge van.

Then I must have been unavailable, cause I don't think there's more than 2 of us driving a Dodge, lol, - but mine looks better!

You know, I am always trying to think up some way to do it faster, better, cheaper, etc., and it has occurred to me that it would be possible to rig up some kind of roof mounted lightweight flatbed tandem trailer for a van that could carry two skids. The trailer would stay on top of the van until the trailer was needed. For example, let's say you're in a van and you got a load offer that was four skids, two of them really tall. You get the trailer off the roof, load the van with two skids, then hitch up the trailer and load it with the two tall skids. Tarp the trailer load and you are ready to go.

If the trailer were designed properly, it could also serve as a roof rack when not being used as a trailer.

What do you think they said when someone suggested that they put the space shuttle on the back of a 747? But look, it works.

Think outside the (van) box.:)

I don't know why but that reminds me of a rig I passed a few weeks ago. A guy had a super fancy motorhome and was pulling a trailer that was a mini version of a car hauler. On the lower deck it had his Silverado and on the hydraulic upper deck it had his fishing boat on it's own trailer.

Anyway, I think the trailer on the van idea is good for personal use but I don't like it as an expediting idea because the freight can't be secured like it can inside a van or box truck. I dislike it most though because unless it's giant crates of packing peanuts or similar material it's overloading the van and putting C unit freight on the van. These companies are already taking advantage of us enough without giving them another way to do it.

Perhaps you could use the tarps and some load bars to rig up some sails on the roof. With the right wind condions you could knock out some real MPG,but you would need to watch out for the overpasses. Have a quick disconnect setup to lower the bars when the overpasses come into sight.

An Iraqi Expediter Driver raised the safety support legs just before leaving the loading dock. A heavier donkey was brought in.

I LOVE the overloaded donkey cart pic. That's a great one.

I also really like the sails idea. I have this picture in my mind of hanging out the side of my truck to keep the wind from blowing it over in a crosswind like the really cool sailboat guys do.
