New and Confused

I'm looking to get into Expediting. I own a chevy express cargo van. I don't have any idea how to come to a good rate to charge. Can anyone give me some help?

What is the size of your van?

How much do you expect to make or need to make?

Have you talked to anyone at any company?

You don't have to answer them but think about them.

You have to figure out what your expenses are to operate that van. Mine were about 45 cents a mile before I tacked on the loan which drove it to 65 cents a mile.

So, approximately how much would you add to the .65 to make a good profit? Is there anywhere on the Web I could look to find a for this kind of thing or could you give me a good formula to use. I have spoken to a carrier but I've researched this company and it seems that they are being or have been sued by their o/o's because of different reasons. I'm not sure I want to get involved with them. They have routes they say that can be negotiated. You understand that...I don't. Being new to this is tough but I want to find out every thing I can before I jump in. I have a couple of printers that I have delivered 100 miles or so far and got paid $200 plus gas. I can find little jobs like this but I have to try to be competetive with the rates. That's why I asked.

I would look at a lot of companies. Not just one.

How much more depends on your other obligations.

It cost me 65 cents but I was making over a buck a mile at the same time paying lots of bills.

I made 1.20 per mile today including the gas he paid for. So this would be a decent rate?
