For all of us who were in the military. If you can't remember your base pay, here you go. Only you guys and gals can remember when. I had forgotten how low it was, after 4 years and making E-5 with flightdeck pay, I was making about 325 a month after 4years, biggggggggggggg money...and that was 1969.....mercy...Officers were somewhat better, but not much.

If I remember correctly I was making $368 per month, as an E-4 when I got out after three years. I had already turned down E-5. On top of that I got $50 per month for separate rations. No stove to cook on so if we wanted hot food we had to go out to eat. Needless to say that even in 1973 $50 did not go that far. Our shifts did not allow us to eat but one meal per day in a mess hall and that was mainly just sandwiches. It was an "off site" Navy base near Homestead AFB. That Navy site got ate by Hurricane Andrew, was sold, and is now a private gun club.
