mbe 900 oil pressure fluctuation

This is a continuation of an earlier thread.
Piper 1, we have verified the oil dip stick IS the OEM for this engine.
The oil has been changed and filled exactly to the full line on the dipstick (in a TA shop).
Driving to the nearest truck stop, the oil pressure was constant...Now we wait for a load to see how the pressure varies on the hills. .

If it still does it, keep a good eye on all your guages when it drops.

I'd really like to find a simple answer to this without you having to go to an engine shop and $pend.

Piper,

I am not an expert on truck engines but when I did my schooling at MB in NJ, I remember something about an oil pressure regulator that was tied to the throttle used on some post war unimog engines. Or is my memory failing me again?

Just a stab in the dark.

Those Germans are always coming up with neat stuff (a unimog is German right?).

I've only read about that and it raised oil pressure at lower rpm, it was supposed to save horsepower at high rpm but give you good pressure at low rpm for hard lugging. I can't remember who it was but I think it was Duetz. Duetz had neat oil systems to compensate for being air cooled.

I hope tellico's problem is simple and we can figure it out before it turns in to a money pit at the shop. It won't cost him $85 an hour for us to scratch our heads!

Yep Unimog is German, MB to be exact.

It belongs to the euro military medium duty truck group, like a Pinzgauer, Volvo Valp and 303 and GAZ. Just a little more versitel.

The Pinzgauer uses the Duetz if I remember right. I think that a lot of compressors also use them.

I forgot Duetz had that system, work on many?

I do hope his problem is something really easy to fix.

Great news, the oil pressure is stable on the hills at about 60 psi. The truck has a light load, but as you recall the pressure fluctuated under load or not going up hill. We may have been stretching the oil life too far...? We will continue to monitor this issue and keep you informed.
We have gone as long a 15K miles between oil changes...we will target between 10K and 12K in the future.

Feedback is welcome.

**PS. I cannot express the gratitude i have for all who offered their expertise in this effort. It is nice to see how finely meshed a community truckers can be. I will certainly recommend this forum to anyone with issues.
Keep it between the lines!!!!
