Doing some research on Camp Nelson National Cemetery, just south of Lexington, KY, I happened across this video. Powerful words from a blessed man with a blessed family.

Here is Camp Nelson National Cemetery as seen from an aerial view on the Fourth of July. My wife and I find it hard to walk these grounds without being shaken. Beautiful and somber. In this instance and at this location, the VA is doing something well.

This happened today. Hundreds of strangers poured out on an August day at Camp Nelson National Cemetery to show support for an unclaimed Vietnam veteran. For all the nights our veterans stood watch alone, they deserve at a minimum to receive an honorable funeral service.

At the beginning of that video you can see quite a few people on motorcycles. Most of those are members of the uber awesome Patriot Guard Riders who provide (only if invited to do so) escort services for the procession, and will attend (again, only if invited) the funeral services of fallen American heroes, First Responders and Honorably Discharged Veterans. They are there to show respect for the deceased. their families, and their communities, and to shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protester or group of protesters.

They were formed in 2005 primarily to deal with the Westboro Baptist church. The Patriot Riders have become brilliantly adept at dealing with Westboro protests. They create a wall of bikes and men and flags to block out the Westboro protesters. Most funerals anymore where Westboro shows up, if they see the Patriot Guard Riders, they just turn around and leave.
