Hi,I would appreciate any help I get with this question. I am currently a company long haul flatbed driver and Im looking for a job that will allow me more flexibility in hometime and maybe better money plus the benefits(if any) of being an owner operator. Ive got quite a bit of experience 10plus years so trucking isnt new to me. Is it reality to be home every weekend or better yet everyday running a van operation? What are the pluses and minuses of a van operation instead of a straight truck? I would be a solo driver. Wouold like to stay as close to home as possible so thought that might be easier with a van but as I dont know anyone who runs expedite I have zero clue. I open to running straight truck if I can be home weekends feasibly/financially. Any replies are very much appreciated to help me make a choice thanks. Oh yeah(this might cause some differences among you) which would be a better company to lease with for either van or straight truck?

I did some checking for you on different expeditors. DMW Expediting is out of Nashville. Metro Express is out of St. Louis, but they only want T/Ts. Check out the advertisers here to see which one suits you best. If you want to be home more, in that area, I would say drive a van. It's alot easier getting home when you don't have to log it. Most on here will agree though... if you aren't sure what you're getting into with expediting, you should run for someone for a few months until you get the business part down.
