LOS ANGELES -- Kia plans to add a second shift at it manufacturing plant in Georgia on Oct. 1 to build the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe.

As Automotive News reported on Aug. 23, Hyundai is transferring production of the Santa Fe SUV from its plant in Alabama, which also builds the hot selling Sonata-sedan, to Kia's plant in West Point, Ga., which builds the Kia Sorento CUV. Hyundai's plant has been running on maximum overtime for months as Hyundai tries to meet demand for the Sonata.

Limited production of the 2011 Santa Fe will begin Sept. 27 before the second shift is activated. Kia's Georgia plant now makes only the 2011 Sorento SUV, according to a Kia statement announcing it would build the Santa Fe.

Both the Sorento and the Santa Fe share a common vehicle platform. Kia built an estimated 69,332 units at the plant through Saturday, Aug. 21, according to the Automotive News Data Center. The plant has the capacity to build 300,000 units annually.

Good!!! They are building CAR's / SUV's at a "price point" that people will buy.....hopefully they can take enough market share from GM that GM will continue to slide to the lowest sales in a month in 28 yrs and just close the doors....one can hope at least.....
