Jumping ship...

I received word about an hour ago that my fleet owner is liquidating his fleet and leaving the business. He has had a handful of trucks for a few years now, but a blown motor and another lemon truck- plus the freight we've been getting so far this year- was apparently too much for him.

I'm looking for info on how other's have been running... good paying freight has been hard to come by lately. Anyone think it's getting better or worse?

I have only been in the truck 9 weeks and I'm overwhelmed by the idea of finding a new owner or new company. My partner is somewhat disgusted and is considering getting out of expediting. He went though a tough last 12 months himself, and we want to know if this just another rough patch.

I want to continue with this, despite the problems so far, I know this is what I've been looking to do. Any advice, encouragement or "RUN for your life!" is appreciated.

If he posted the trucks for sale here, he already told :p
If you like the business, you can make a good living. If those trucks that are listed for sale are his ( just a guess.....very possibly could be wrong).......over 500k miles on a 05 is a pretty hard driving truck, not sure what the mileage expectations are but 225000 + miles a year are pretty good miles.

Jansiemoo: having said that you know this is what you want to do, the answer is easy: find a way to keep doing it!
We spend so much of our lives working, that finding work you actually enjoy doing is about as good as it gets, IMO. When I realized that I'm a good driver, but a terrible owner, I found someone to drive for, and I'm glad I did - I love what I do! So this is to encourage you, to go for it - with or without a partner, if it's what YOU want to do. :)

And I can't think of a better example than Cheri:p

Thanks for the support. As of today, I am home and will be contacting fleet owners. My driving partner is recommitted to sticking with this as well, because we do work so well together- he knows we can make money in a working truck.

P.S. don't eat the beans at the TA buffet in Buckhorn, Pa- it was hard to drive while vomiting :p

Hi,
Sorry for your current situation, but, things are sometimes difficult to deal with, specially when it take you by surprise.

There are always solutions that will come sooner or latter, in this case, I will like you to send me a P.M. so I can offer you a possible solution if it is to your and your partner best interest. I am a small fleet owner in business for 14 years, and have a small truck fleet of straight trucks, 2007 96" sleepers, and will have 4 more 2008 coming soon.

Best regards and luck in your quest.

J Rivera.
