Jet engine test run before release (photo)

Many times before we load a newly rebuilt jet engine, they are test fired and ran before being released and shipped back an awaiting aircraft. Also brand new engines and engines that have sat in inventory to long without being run are required to go through the same process.

How do you test a high powered jet engine without the plane? you lash it down in a specially designed test pit with a control room thats like something from a si fi movie and fire it up. The picture below is a JT-8 jet engine being test run.

We used to do a lot of Pratt and Whitney engines in our sprinter...watched them at a Naval Research facility fire a modified F18 engine up..of course pictures were not allowed..real neat stuff...thanks Steve

Neat, thanks for the picture

Heres three JT-8 jet engines on our deck ready to unload at a rebuild shop. Note they are minus the aft (tail) sections. After rebuilding them, they will be shipped to an FAA approved test site and fired up before being hung on an awaiting aircraft.
