Greg,
Who is the enemy? Terrorist? Where are they? What do they look like? How do they dress? Can they be American, African, European, Mexican, Canadian, Russian, etc.?
The point is that we do not know who the terrorist are. Can you fight a battle without knowing the enemy? It was a lost cause before we even stepped foot in their country.
Yes they are all around; we allowed them to come here. Some are people who feel there is no hope in life, others come here to kill.
I don’t think it is a lost cause just because you don’t see solutions. I think it is because you, like many others fail to understand their mindset and their culture. One thing that is important to the culture is strength, which we don’t show when we even have debates. It is a different culture.
Can we fight a battle? No it is not that kind of war, there is more to it than just going out on the street and fighting. One thing that many miss is that this is also a war of words and posturing.
Heck, the Iraq people cannot point out a terrorist. If we can answer this then we can capture murderers here before they murder. I don't know about you but I cannot read minds nor can I tell you who a terrorist is.
Actually they do know who the terrorist are, they can point them out and have been. I think it would be much worst if it wasn’t for the people who want a better life and putting their families own life at risk by pointing out who these people are. The Iraqis know what it was like to live under Saddam but they also know what Iran has in store for them. We got to remember that the problem there is not the terrorist, it is the problem that we didn’t handle the aftermath with the army and there are a number of former army officers controlling things with help from the clerics.
Our government could not protect us here. What makes you think we can do anything over there? Our government used FEAR to get the populous to react. We did out of anger, and we forgot that vengeance is not ours. The USA has means to freeze all bank accounts domestic and abroad when the funds are suspected of going to terrorist groups. Guess what? No funds, no terrorism. Instead of doing the most obvious we use force. I bet the people that lost loved ones in the 9/11 tragedy could have used that money. What does this blood shed do for them?
The government is doing a good job, you just don’t see it. Sorry if this goes against the propaganda from the left but the last time I checked, we haven’t had anything major. As for the government using fear, got to call that BS. Here is why; we have had several incidents where Muslims have attacked people and the government has been very careful not to use fear to motivate anything, to be exact here are a couple examples; one was in Seattle where a Muslim man killed a women and wounded 5 others because he was ‘tired of hearing about Isreal’. A Muslim student who drove his car through a crowd at UNC-Chapel Hill, he said he wanted to kill but failed to do so. What we did after 9.11 was what any nation would do but we forgot the lesson.
As for the banks, well what happened with the Washington post publishing the secerts that we were watching transactions of foreigners? That was a suggestion by the slanted 9.11 commission and it was in place to find where the money was being funneled through. We can’t freeze a thing until we have a clear cut case to do so.
I would like to know what is the most obvious thing that we could do?
It is about OIL and RESOURCES. All for political gain. You know what? This stupid war is costing us valuable lives. Young lives that are needed here in the USA. And this brings to mind our problem with social security. We are a GRAYING AMERICA. Why expend our young people for pure greed? That means our Congress can pass the most strictest laws to keep illegal immigrants out of the USA, but our same government sees these immigrants as the future for reviving our social security system. So we have strict laws but lax enforcements.
A never ending story...
You know the war is not the real issue that we need to be concern about; it is our people who don’t know what they are voting for or thinking that they are actually voting for a president in a primary.
We are at war for a lot of reasons; one was in hope to reform the UN, to bring out the problems that led up to war. We don’t take their oil, we allowed them to form a government that they think is right for them and they have been working harder than we have in using their rights. 4000 lives is a tragedy but look at all the lies lost because of a president who did a political thing by pulling support from a stable ally. Look at all the lives lost so we can save countries that now act as they are better than us.
What greed, so you can enjoy your freedoms? So you can say that Iraq is not worthy of our help?
When do you draw the line?
Where do you draw the line? Only help Europe? Only help Canada? Some way off tourist spot?
We look at Africa and say we have to do more but until you go there and see first hand the political nature of the countries involved, it is far better not to go there. We can easily get involve with Darfur, we can provide the relief and save thousands of lives but at what cost? We failed in Bosnia, we bombs an ally. We failed in Somalia, where we left because it got too tough. You know we are in Africa for no reason at all?
I think we need to reevaluate our country and what we stand for if we can’t help Iraqis.
